This search for a guitar has gotten me to start thinking about whether I should be more open minded about the music I listen to and the kind of music I should listen to. For example, have there been amazing sounds and melodies I haven't heard just because I didn't open myself up to listening to guitar riffs?
And how should one define these sounds anyway? Ovidiu over at Guitar Flame wonders how to classify the sounds he hears and what makes him like it.
"Did you ever ask yourselves why? What it is that makes a style of music to be in trends? Why “hair rock” is not in trends anymore? What makes it old fashioned today?" he asks.
Which in turn makes me question why I like certain sounds and whether I have closed to hearing other sounds because they don't fall into the trends of the period or the certain category I think I like.
The best example I can think of is my brother's music. Could be there be melodies I'm missing simply because it's not in my opinion of what's cool now? Does he like it because it's cool to like it? Is it a trend? Will it pass?
