This Christmas...I'd like a ukulele please! Hey, it's in the guitar family! Ok, maybe not. But if I really was to get a ukulele, I'd also have to make sure I get a copy of the mini e-book being offered by Woodshed over at Ukehunt.co. This book has everything the newbie uke strummer could possibly want to know! I suggest hopping on over to Ukulele Hunt right now and ordering a copy of the book. How much is it going to cost you? A measly 0 dollars!!! Yes, you heard me right. It's free for signing up to the mailing list. So I suggest getting one NOW! But seriously, folks. Care for a guitar that's more your speed? Check this out! Care for a splurge? You Jemsite fans out there may want to give yourself the gift of Ibanez! The Ibanez RG370DXGP2 Electric Guitar is a bit of hefty price (in the $500 range,) but it's a bit of a hefty guitar and in my opinion, worth the moola!
Happy Holidays!!! |

Nashville, TN resident and 15-year guitar player Josh Evitt began the Guitar Lifestyle blog as in 2005 as a means to celebrate guitars and educate and inspire guitarists. Since taking on partial blogging duties at Jemsite, I've been lucky enough to become a small part of it, getting him to write up a cool Resources For Beginners post on this blog for new guitarists and recently writing about my 5 favorite Mod Female Guitar Rockers for his site. While you're there, make sure to check out his awesome album reviews. You'll be happy you did!

Fellow guitar blogger GuitarMx posts the long-awaited Guns N' Roses album (15 years in the making!) Chinese Democracy, has flopped big time! The album debuted at #3 (it looks like even Ms. Britney Spears herself is going to debut higher!) and only sold 261,000 copies in the US during its first week.
GuitarMx (and Musicradar.com, no less) says there are many reasons that the album flopped. Axl took too long to get the album out, there was not enough promotion, and it wasn't the same Guns N' Roses we all know and love, just to name a few. (Slash didn't appear on the album! Where's Slash? The guy scares me to death, but there's no Guns N' Roses without Slash and we all know it!!!) And I guess that Free Dr. Pepper for Guns N' Roses promotion Zack mentioned on his Guitar Vibe site didn't help any either... You were supposed to log in to the Dr.Pepper.com site a while back to get a coupon for a free Dr. Pepper IF GNR released their album, of course. And they did! But it flopped... Zack says Axl probably found the promotion really funny. Then again, who knows what goes in the mind of someone like Axl Rose. It did take him 15 long years to get that album out. Unfortunately, it looks like it wasn't worth it. Too bad.

You know the old saying, "Better late than never"? Well I'm just now checking out The Rock House Method's John McCarthy and Jimmy Rutkowski recently posted 20 Songs Every Beginner Guitarist Should Know...and the list is fantastic! Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Metallica...what more could one ask for? Of course, a little Blink 182 and Green Day thrown in there for good measure. The list is a little bit of everything...and totally amazing! I'm definitely passing this list on to my brother! Thanks guys!

A friendship has blossomed between an guitar newbie who's eagerly searching for her's brother's next birthday present and a prominent guitar blogger from one of the coolest guitar blogs out there who was more than willing to offer a little advice. Lucky for us, we got one better from that blogger, Jon of Guitar Noize, when he was also willing to do a special guest entry on the site just for us. If you haven't already, make sure to check out his fun post on guitar cases from Postal Monkey below. Then hop on over to the Jemsite forums, and congratulate Jon on a job well done. His username: Guitarnoize, of course.
This Wednesday, don't forget to check out Guitar Noize, where Jon will be featuring a fierce guitar story from Jemsite member and blogger, IbanezFreak777. |

Did you know that it was The Beatles and other guitar-based groups in the 60s that were the ones that started the world’s obsession and demand for the electric guitar?
I most certainly did not. But here’s some more interesting info. Apparently, it was this demand for the guitar that caused several factories that had previously been making accordions to switch to the manufacturing of guitars. What does one get when that happens? Accordian-like push buttons on the guitar of course (along with some glittery designs.
GL Wilson explains this whole phenomenon on his Guitarz site and then includes a photo of cool rare vintage Eko 400 Blue Sparkle Resoglas Guitar. Upon looking at this stunner, I couldn’t help but laugh at the things some people will do to a guitar—for decoration purposes of course. I could see some kind of girly punk band playing one of these—but some of them are too much even for them. Check out a photo on his site. Totally cool…and totally not right for what I’m looking for. Oh well, moving on. |
