The physical appearance of the 6778LX is very appealing. The Fourteen seperate sound holes and inlaid leaf-shaped wood epaulets are unique and quite beautiful. The round-back body is a composite fiberglass Lyrachord mid depth bowl, using something called "glass microsphere" technology. What does this mean to you? Well, what it meant to me was that I'd picked up a guitar which was a heck of a lot lighter than I'd expected, but when I played it, the sound was just about as rich and full as higher-end acoustic I've ever laid my hands on. The nick is fairly thin and comfortable to play, it has a very thin neck more reminiscent of some of my electrics. And since it is a mid-depth bowl, I feel it is just a lot more comfortable to hold than some of Ovations larger-bowl guitars. I was surprised at the level of acoustic volume that is projected from this guitar. But it wasn't just the volume that was impressive -- the guitar just sings with great sustain and amazing tone. You would swear the acoustic sound by itself is being taylored with an EQ and other processing! It quickly became my favorite acoustic in my collection, and that's before I even plugged it in once.
When I did plug it in, I was in for a real treat. I've run it into my Boss GT-10 and tried several flavors of my dry acoustic patches. The pickup seems very bright and clean and the amount of bass response is almost like that of a mic'd acoustic. The Op-Pro pre-amp gives you several features; a chromatic tuner, Pre-EQ circuit, 3-band EQ, and a master gain control. I tried it both with the Pre-EQ circuit engaged and disengaged. Without it, there was more of a "boomy" sound which I don't particularly care for. With it engaged it seems to clean that up nicely and the treble comes through a bit more. Plus the 3-band EQ still can provide further coloring even with the Pre-EQ engaged.
The OP-PRO Pre-amp doesn't just have a built-in tuner, it is a *chromatic* tuner which makes alternate tunings easy. This has proven to be very convenient.

I'd ordered the guitar at a Guitar Center store, and they had to have it shipped from their warehouse. The guitar was set up just fine from the factory.

| Reliability & Durability |
I've had the guitar for about a year and have had no problems with it. I would have no issue bringing it to a gig without an acoustic backup.
