The book I learned on
| Comments |
This is the book that took me from a decent bedroom player to someone with chops to play in front of people. I was a huge Metallica fan in high school and One remains a favorite of mine. The book is just a book until you try to learn it and there are no secrets or shortcuts to better playing. Still, my desire to play some of the songs on this album opened my world up to my first sweep picking exercises, tremolo picking, tapping, good palm muting, and several other techniques that have served me well over the years. The tabs are well written and accurate and the included musical notation is helpful for things like phrasing that just tabs are unable to convey.

1. Lots of great songs.
2. Hammett was in his element for this album with a wide array of techniques. Really great practice material for the aspiring lead guitarist.

1. It's just the songs and it would be nice to have an explanation for some of the techniques that are a bit trickier.
2. As someone else said, if you really use the book, the cover and binding start to break down.

Just What it Says...And Justice for All

This is a great book to have. The tabs are super accurate and it also has the notes on the staff as well, which can help to show the speed and length of the notes i.e sixteenth notes or triplets. On top of that it has the chords you can play with the more technical part. In the front of the book it shows what all the symbols mean for those who don't know ex: slides or bends. It has the tuning the song is in as well. It is a great book and a great album. In the back it shows other books and albums that Metallica has out. It is great for beginners to just learn the chord or some cool simple riffs and intro and once they gain confidence some of the more simple solos are more complex riffs. It is awesome for the intermediate and advanced players as well to learn the searing solos and fast riffs like in Blackened.

Rite of Passage

I was fortunate enough to experience the arrival of this true classic record firsthand. This is the album that initiated the guitar fever in me. Once I heard this, I remember thinking, THAT'S what I wanna do with my life. I'm pretty sure the first riff I ever learned was the opening riff to "One". And so I spent endless hours studying and learning the many amazing riffs and licks contained in this masterpiece of an album. From the soothing melodies of "To live is to die.." to the insanely fast rhythms of songs like "Blackened" and "Dyers Eve", this book is loaded with music that will take your playing to great new heights.

This book offers lots of insight on the great orchestration behind this Grammy winning album. The tabs are very accurate. Nothing beats playing these songs full force, so crank up, indivisible with liberty...and justice for all.

What's not to like? This is an undeniable classic. :) Besides maybe making the novice feel a bit inexperienced and inadequate due to the inability to play most of the material, this should not discourage you into putting your instrument down, but instead encourage you to not put it down until you nail the part. My copy is used and abused & practically withered away, but that's only because I really put it to use.

This is very good!

I got this book many, many years ago and it has served me well. Accurate tabs and well printed.
Set out in album song order, it has all of the required information to "Play it like it is". One of their best albums, includes all of the lyrics and staff music, not just tabs.
Well laid out when multiple guitars with the fills, riffs and solos well defined and clearly defined.

Accurate. More portable that computer tab programs.
Well made, I have had it for at least 18 years and it has barely a dog ear with only the very edge of the paper fading.
Poster and foreword are a nice touch.

exposes my inability to play... hahaha
Could have more pics.
With all of the tab programs these books may be outdated soon!

There are many, many highlights on the Justice album.....and here we have all the tasty parts that make it the classic Metallica!!!
Its very near the pinnacle of Metallica's career, with Hammett doing his best solos and Hetfield showing us his great style of writing and playing!!!
Its a great addition to your collection and one that you could refer to if your feeling like thrashing out!!!!

1- The binding may deteriorate after prolonged use!!
2- As with the steve Vai books, adding some colour photos for each song would greatly improve the overall package!
