Accurate tabs of a classic album featured

Comments As guitarists, we have all at least heard of Metallica, and most of us have probably had at least some Metallica riffs under out belt at one point or another. What better way to learn some classic riffs than with Metallica's most well known and diverse album to date. As with all of the Hal Leonard tab books I own, the transcriptions are all very accurate. The notation, BPM's, and lyrics are also a huge plus to have. Otherwise, you would have to follow along with the CD. The songs are in order and are complete. One thing that kinda bugged me are the lack of pictures. I know the focus of the book are the tabs, but some nice color pictures certainly wouldn't hurt. Also as some of the reviewers below have mentioned, the book is a little flimsy. In addition, I felt that in order to conserve paper, they crammed a lot measures and lines on each page, but really that is just small potatoes. I think having an accurate transcription of an album is such a great resource that any little gripes I have are not a big deal whatsoever. Plus, it is so easy to have these tabs to teach students than have to figure out the songs myself!

Liked about it Accurate
Lots of relevant info
Complete!

Didn't like Book a little flimsy
Crowded pages
More pics couldn't hurt

Accurate transcription. featured

Comments An easy to follow accurate authorised transcription of one of Metallica's most popular albums.
Well laid out in album song order, it is clear and relatively easy to follow. Will not present too many difficulties for an intermediate guitarist to follow (regardless of being able to actually play it!).
Has all the relevant tabulature information explained at the start of the book and chord drawings at the start of each song.

Liked about it All information required is printed, from tab explanations to chord patterns.
Quality printing. Pages still clear and undamaged after at least 15 years.
Portable in the world of computers can still sit outside of where ever you want!

Didn't like Its a book, how much is there not to like?? hahaha

Great tab book of a classic album

Comments Metallica's self-titled "Black" album is a certified classic in the rock world. It was one of my major influences when I first picked up the guitar at the age of 12. Songs like Enter Sandman, Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters were all over the radio, and top 40 video clip countdowns. As such, this book was one of my first tab books.

All of the songs are nicely laid out, with all guitar parts tabbed clearly. It was a wonderful thing to have this book.

The sad thing about the book is the quality of the cover printing, and binding. Through average use the covers are worn out, and the pages falling out too. It really is a disappointment when you think how much these books cost when new that they deteriorate so much, so quickly. At least the paper used to print the tabs is of fairly reasonable stock.

At the end of the day Hal Leonard have done a great job of tabbing all of the songs on this album. It's just a pity they were so cheap when it came to publishing it. I like to keep my books in good condition, but when books like this are bound so terribly it really is impossible to do so.

Liked about it Very clearly tabbed out.
* Appears to be quite accurate in it's transcriptions
* Good stock paper

Didn't like Terribly bound, the books binding just disintergrates.
* Cover stock and printing of sub-par quality.

Great Album Great Book

Comments This book is great. It is very well setup. All the songs are in the correct order. The tabs are accurate and have the time signature, key, and actual notes above. The chord charts are at the top of every song and above the tabs it tells what chords can be played over every part. This book is great for beginners which is what I was when I first got it to intermediate and advanced players wanting to learn some cool solos which is what I am now. It shows what all the symbols mean in the front of the book like slides and bends for example. Lastly it has some cool pictures of the band.

Liked about it -Accurate tabs
-Cool pictures
-Has all the necessary information to play the song

Didn't like Nothing really bad to say maybe it would be better if the pictures were in color

Play it like it is

Comments It is what it is. The tabs are clear and accurate. The accompanying music notation and chords easily make it more simple to understand than just having a tab chart like you'll find on some internet site. It does a good job of illustrating Hammett's wah techniques as well as other helpful information in some places to allow the reader to more fully understand what is going on in the song.

Liked about it 1. It's accurate.
2. Music notation makes it even easier to understand.

Didn't like 1. No real problems other than the book binding is a bit flimsy. Still, that's probably more to do with my care than it is an inherent weakness in the book.

The Black Album In Your Face!!!!

Comments Here we have the black album...and what a landmark album in the 90's it was!! Defining a crushing sound and crystal clear production, anyone recording an album would envy!!!!!
As usual with all Hal Leonard publications, it delivers clear and accurate transcriptions...every single bend and chunk!!!
Lets face it, its the black album and not a technical masterpiece, but still, one can listen to this album over and over and over and still it wont age....unlike many albums of the same year!!!

Liked about it 1- Clear and accurate transcriptions
2- Not printed on cheap paper

Didn't like 1- The binding has a tendancy to deteriorate if referred to often
2- Shame that each song doesnt have its own colour picture like the Steve Vai books!!! It could make a good product all the more better!!!

Reliable tabs, saves you searching the internet.

Comments This book does exactly what it says on the 'tin.' It's better than any internet tabs out there, as it's been properly transcribed by professionals (not just somebody with some time to kill.) If you want to learn the songs from this album and you can't learn them by ear, get this book and don't waste your time looking for decent tabs online, then you can focus on playing ;).

Liked about it Top three positive points:
-Clearly transcribed, writing isn't tiny.
-Has musical notation and TAB
-Accurate

Didn't like The only negative really is that you could be paying for these transcriptions when your friend could just teach you it, if you have a friend that can play Metallica. But even then having the REAL transcription will help!
