Great for beginners featured

Comments I bought this book about 12 years ago, when I first started to get into guitar playing. At the time it didn't come with a DVD, so I can't comment on that aspect. However, it's been great for me. It got me through a few high school musicals with some funky jazz chords that my typical blues rock playing did not expose me to.
The chords are displayed clearly with fingerings and musical notation. I also liked how it shows pictures of the way the hand should look when properly fingering the chord. It covers a wide spectrum of chords, by no means definitive. In that sense, it's an excellent book for both beginners and intermediate players.
I did think that with some chords, space could have been saved by showing patterns and shapes and then just saying where to start on the fretboard rather than showing each chord individually. I also would've liked a few different positions or different fingerings of certain chords.
Despite these two complaints, which have only surfaced as I've become comfortable with most of the chords in the book, I do think it an excellent tool for beginners and intermediate players looking to expand their chordal vocabularies.
My overall satisfaction is based on my opinion when I first got it rather than on my current opinion, which would be a 3. I'd also like to know about the DVD since that might address some of the complaints I have with it.

Liked about it 1. Very simple and easy to understand.
2. A good chord vocabulary for beginner players with excellent diagrams and simple notations.
3. Easily pops into a gig bag to take to rehearsals.

Didn't like 1. Lots of repetitive chord fingerings just starting on different frets for a few types of chords. They could have have shown the shape and how to place it on the fretboard and saved space for more chords.
2. Only one fingering/position for each chord. While it gives the theory so that you could put that chord together elsewhere, a few different looks would really have expanded it's usefulness to me.

worth every penny [great book for beginners] featured

Comments this is the book that got me started i learned ever chord in it and shows easy to read diagrams of how to put your fingers ,after a while i could hear the chors in songs and got my own style was a great kick start on my learning. i would reccomend this book to anyone who is a beginner and need a good starting point.or even some one who need to brush up on chords and needs a quick refrence or missing a chord from a song their writing and cant figure out the right one their looking for.i never use the dvd its o.k but the real knowledge is in the diagrams.

Liked about it i loved the diagrams to refrence chords anytime i wanted and if i forgot one.
it shows you some interesting stuff like movable chords and alot of different chord types that i never would of thought of trying.
the guy is old school and it gives me a certain feeling that im learning from a school teacher instead of a rockstar trying to show off like i see in alot of instructional videos.I think it even helped me get away from my nirvana days playing 3 bar chords thinking i was awesome and wasting preciuos time i could have been making a foundation for learning real guitar .

Didn't like the only thing i can think i didnt like about it is its a paper back book and it curled up on me in closet so put a heavy book on it when your not using it .
