Sub Zero? Beyond Cool!
| Comments |
The market for guitar strings is so competitive that it is easy to see why manufacturers need to differentiate their products, and it is tempting to assume that a lot of these products are really being marketed as the latest thing without any real reason, other than shifting units.
Not so with Sub Zeros. These strings are cyrogenically frozen during the manufacturing process (from what I can remember) by submersing them in liquid nitrogen. I won't pretend to know the science for this but for me it makes a world of difference. These strings have a distinctive tone and clarity that I have never heard in another string, even standard offerings from GHS. The first time I tried these was on a Fender Music Master from the 1970's, that whilst it holds a special place in my heart could never be described as a serious tone monster! I put these strings on and the difference was utterly remarkable. It was like hearing a different guitar, there was a little more volume than I remembered and the clear tone really encouraged expressive playing.
There is only one question in my mind about these strings; how on earth did they realise that dropping strings in liquid nitrogen would make them sound so good!
