Searched 1992 Ibanez RG560 in Reviews
The 550's overlooked sibling.
Sound
The sound of the guitar is amazing for a stock Ibanez, I own a purple '90 model, and have owned several other 560's through the years. Unplugged the guitar resonates loud and strong.
The v series pickups are good for most styles of music, I don't prefer them to the 7xx series, but they are much better than the current stock Ibanez offerings.
I have used these Rg560's in church, in metal gigs and even some funk.
The guitar runs well through many types of amps but it really shines through SLP's, Jcm 800's, Mesa Recto's and Marks, Engl's, the gain brings a bit more character to the bridge humbucker, but the two single coils ring like bells, and suit many softer types of music. Never found anything out of the order when running effects, good or bad...
I usually use GHS Boomers 9's for standard tuning all the way up to 12's for drop Bb.

The guitars are usually had at a relative bargain and they are well worth it.
Having said that, the older a guitar is, the closer you have to pay attention to it's needs.
The neck cracks and joint cracks in old ibanez square heels is usually found in these too. As long as you make sure they arent spreading or too deep you should be ok.
Also with any original wizard neck i'd have it checked by a luthier and adjusted as needed.
The original edge is an excellent double locking trem but keeping the knife edges sharp is a good idea.
I'd always bring several guitars to a gig if possible, especially double locking ones.
The black finished example i had, seemed to have a thicker poly finish than my purple and red ones....but definately not going to wear off in months if it hasnt in 20 years.

Another fine classic from the Golden Era of Ibanez!
Sound
Outstanding tone! Mine is modded with a Tone Zone in the bridge, HS-3 in the middle, and a Chopper in the neck. As with all RG-500 series, this one is just as great. With the added pickups, I can get just about any tone I'm after. From nice low-end chugga chugga to sweet and singing cleans.
|
Action, Fit, & Finish
These 560s are just like their other 500 series brothers. The action can be set super low, as I always set mine. I can set the action so low, that a business card barely fits between the frets and the strings--with NO fret buzz or fretting out. The neck to pocket fit is perfect on these. Finish? Well, mine's a Purple Neon--you all know how I am about my purple babies! Aside from the color, the finish is very durable. Of course, it's only as good as you treat it. The Edge trem is second-to-none.

Reliability & Durability
I rely on my 500 series guitars for my everyday use, and this one is no exception. There's a reason they're sought after all these years later--THEY LAST!

All RG-500 series and up are killer.
The available finishes--especially the purples.
The BEST action of any guitar on the planet!

I can't mention anything bad about these. My only gripe is that Ibanez discontinued them...time for a reissue!

Classic Ibanez
Sound
I bought my Ibanez RG560 off ebay a month or two ago and it feels great. Original Wizard Neck is thin and smooth and Lo-Pro bridge stays in tune no matter what abuse i throw its way. Running the guitar through my Mesa Boogie Mark IV, I get a large palette of tones although as with all ibanez guitars, the stock pickups arent that great and should be replaced. Since I already use my other guitars for other tunings, I decided to use this guitar for Drop D tuning (a bit of alt-rock and some metal) with 11-46 strings and it does the job fine. I personally found the guitar a bit trebley but this may be a plus for some.

As I bought the guitar on ebay, it was old (1993) but the previous owner had treated it very well.
