A definite diamond in the rough for Telecaster fans!

I recently heard that the Telecaster is the most-recorded guitar of all-time. After playing this guitar, I know why. I've never really been a Telecaster fan, but my friend bought this one and didn't like it, so I got it for a great price. The quality of the maple on the neck is fantastic and in my opinion worth the entire price of the guitar. I have the Butterscotch finish and I love this guitar. The neck is a not-too-thick "C" shape and fits comfortably into my smaller hands. I'm told the bridge pickup is based upon the Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounder and with the fullness of the bridge tone, I believe it. The guitar had a "vintage" setup when I got it and played quite nicely. I adjusted the vintage saddles and lowered the action a bit and now it plays on par with my Stratocasters. I also pulled out the stock pickups and put a Dimarzio Air Norton S in the bridge and a Dimarzion Area T Neck (The best-sounding neck pickup in the world) in the neck position. This guitar is a dream--there's no sound I can't coax out of it. The sound on the neck pickup is glassy and smooth with just the right amount of low-end pump (not thump) and roll-off of the high frequencies so they don't get shrill. I play straight-ahead rock 'n roll and I could do a set with this guitar no problem.

As noted above, I dropped the bridge saddles a little as the factory set-up was the vintage standard. The quality of the wood is superlative. I often just stare at the neck, the maple fretboard is so beautiful.

This guitar is solid and is heavier than my Squier Telecasters. I would gig this guitar without a backup and would be happy doing so--and I'm a devout Ibanez Wizard neck evangelist!!!

Never had to deal with Fender CS.

BEAUTIFUL wood on both the body and the neck!!
Smooth jazzy tone with the stock setup.
It's a STEAL--I would have thought this guitar would have been over $1000.

Factory setup was a bit high on the action.
Two strings to a saddle--makes independent string adjustment tricky.
Factory neck pickup a little weak--replace it with a Dimarzio Area T Neck!!

I honesty don't know why I sold it!

IT sounds like a telecaster should. Nice and twangy in the bridge position. That will give you that nice hot twangy country picker sound or give you that raunchy The Clash sound. The neck pickup was great too. Warm sounding.

The neck and fretboard on mine was just beautiful. Birdseye maple is the most visually stunning maple to use in my opinion. The neck felt really fast.

I remember mine holding up well. I gigged it a couple of times. I truly honestly can't remember why i sold it. I think I might have been changing my sound and heading back to humbucker guitars at the time. I do that a lot.

nothing really to say here. No negatives. Maybe a little noisy when overdriven, but all single coils are that way.
