IBANEZ JEM 777 DY

Nice signature model here, but one of my favourites at all. I bought some JEM models because their look easily made me fall in love with them but, after some years of playing, I realized there are much better Ibanez instruments.

Sound I've owned this guitar for about 5 years now. And I love every bit of it. It sounds fantastic. The maple neck and maple fretboard balance the lack of highs you get from a basswood body very well. It is a totally balanced sound. The DiMarzio PAF Pros are amazing as well, but that goes with out saying. Only downfall on the sound is that the middle single coil has significantly less output than the neck and bridge humbuckers. There is a painfully noticeable volume drop when switching from a solid humbucker to any of the middle three positions. Specially on clean tones. Which is a shame because the neck split with the middle single coil produces a beautiful strat like tone with no harshness, but no volume... I love the effect the old neck heel had on the tone. I wish Ibanez still made their guitars with this heel. Sure its a little bit more cumbersome, but your sustain goes through the roof. I don't think I can go back to their AANJ just because it sounds weaker and thinner to me now.

Action, Fit, & Finish I didn't buy this straight from the factory. I was born in 1990 this guitar is from 1991. But I will comment on the craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Finish is very thin. It looks great. I hate how a lot of newer Ibanez guitars look like the clear gloss is excessively applied. It looks cheap to me.
Only down side the the factory work is the scalloping. My 22nd and 23rd frets weren't scalloped all the way to the frets. Doesn't bug me at all. Cause you still get the same effect. But ascetically it looks bad to see the fret scalloping uneven.

Reliability & Durability This guitar is 20 years old now. And still plays like its never seen a gig. And trust me, I've gigged her to what should be death. I know I can depend on this guitar to perform. Only reason why I would bring a back up guitar is for broken strings.

Customer Support I haven't had any contact with Ibanez directly so I can't comment on this.

Liked about it Neck shape- Best neck shape I've had in my hands yet. Yes, this is a subjective comment. But everyone I've let play my guitar has commented on how effortlessly you can play and bend strings, and play chords and everything seems to happen with no discomfort to your hands.

Overall Tone- Again, its super balanced and super versatile.

Super lightweight- You can gig forever with this thing on your shoulder. It is my most light weight guitar and I think the lightest weight guitar I am yet to pick up.

Didn't like Completely unfinished neck- feels great, but gets dirty. And I hate cleaning things.

Beautiful Guitar With No Deal Breaking Flaws!

Sound I've owned many many jems, and the jem777dy is one of my favorites.
Ill start by talking about how it sounds. I play many types of music, so i need a guitar that can produce many diverse sounds, and with the 5 way switch and the pups in this baby, i got every sound i needed.

The inlays are perfect, my favorite inlays on any guitar of all time. The neck is fast, which makes me feel like a better player. The yellow finish is very striking and always catches people off guard.

Reliability & Durability Very reliable and well built, as are most jems. Stays in tune for a while, id bring a backup to a gig though in case you break a string.

Liked about it Inlays rock
The yellow finish makes me happy :)
Its a total shredders guitar.

Didn't like I have no issues with it besides the neck pocket finish cracks suck...most jems get that though.

IBANEZ JEM 777 DY - A CLASSIC !!

Sound The guitar sounds great. PAF Pro pickups offer a high-quality and versatile sound. Personally, the bad part of this instrument is the playability and comfort. The C-Shaped and unfinished back part of the neck is definitely my cup of tea. I usually play thinner necks and I never get used to the thicker shape of the JEM neck. I never felt comfortable with the old squared-heel neck joint. This particular model made me realize that guitars without a pickguard are a lot more comfortable and playable for me.

Reliability & Durability It's a very nice instrument, but for its price I think it has too many 'buts'. For all the mentioned above, I exclusively used it at home. Obviously I never had a technical problem with it. Also, in the 1992 model I had, the fretboard inlays' craftmanship wasn't as perfect as you normally expect of a signature model.

Liked about it - Monkey grip and lion's claw.
- Lo-Pro Edge tremolo system.
- Neon color combination and look.

Didn't like - C-Shaped neck.
- Old Squared-Heel neck joint.
- Price.
