Even nicer than most Ibanez signature models
Sound
This guitar features a mahogany body with flamed maple top, bolt-on maple neck with rosewood fretboard and vine of life inlay. The stock pickups are DiMarzio Air Norton, Blue Velvet and Tone Zone... 5-way switch.
I really enjoy the sounds I get from this guitar. It's a bit warmer than my basswood and alder Ibanez guitars, so the sounds it produces are a bit richer. I get a great crunch from the Tone Zone, probably the best sounding DiMarzio single coil I own in the Blue Velvet and killer, buttery solo tones from the Air Norton.
I find this guitar is the "ying" to my Jem7VH's "yang". Where the Jem is bright, this one is warm. They compliment each other very well. I find that I tend to prefer the sound of this J-Custom for recordings where the Jem is better for live applications in which cutting through the mix might be a challenge otherwise.

Action, Fit, & Finish
I bought this from Rich Harris at Ibanez Rules so of course it showed up with the best fit and finish I've ever experienced.
This one had Rich's pro prep done so it showed up with the locking stud mod, rounded off fret edges, etc.
The J-Custom straight from the factory already would've had better fit and finish than any other guitar I've ever owned, but after Rich added his touches this guitar soars above the rest.
The vine of life makes the inlays they put in the Jems cheap by comparison. Recessed volume and tone knobs... the attention to detail is out of this world. Unfortunately, these days the prestige models and J-Customs come with zero edge trems (which I hate) or I'd own more of them.

Reliability & Durability
I got this one new in 2005 and I've never had a single issue with it. It's extremely reliable and durable. I will say that this guitar is SO NICE that I rarely take it out to gigs. I have to know the venue and be confident that nothing bad will happen. I've used it in countless rehearsals and it's probably seen a dozen gigs or so since I bought it. Exceptional instrument, period.

Customer Support
I've only ever had to contact Ibanez for general questions, but they've always been very responsive and helpful.

Liked about it
1) Fit and finish - I've either owned or handled multiple guitars from every major manufacturer and a couple of custom made pieces too. This is hands down the nicest instrument I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
2) The sound - I get killer tones from this guitar and I use it regularly in studio applications.
3) The feel - a very comfortable instrument that's a shear joy to play.

Didn't like
It's a niggle, but I still prefer the old lo pro and edge trems. Of the modern era trems the edge pro is by far the best one (which is what came on this guitar), but I don't like it quite as well as the lo pro or original edge.
What I like even less is that Ibanez has since gone almost exclusively to the zero edge trems for J-Customs and Prestige models. C'mon Ibanez... kill the zero edge and bring back decent trems to your high-end, non-signature models!
