New 1527Z - BK
| Sound |
I own the older "blueish" 1527 with EP trem for some time and love it, so I was eager to test the new 1527Z with the Edge Zero trem and see if there are any improvements or downsides.
Out of the box and dry, the guitar still has its nice attack and easy playability, as this features basically are the same as the old model. Plugged into an amp, the guitar sounds very "nasty" in a GOOD way. It has a lot of drive and the Ibanez pups get the job done nicely. From Crunch to highes gain, you can get a good defined tone. However if you go to the really "insane" gain settings you might get a little muddiness in there, that is not really a fault of Ibanez, but the pups have a good amount of mids that get amplified a lot.
Possibly with eanough mid-cut you can compensate this, I did not have a parametric EQ at hand while testing it.
Sure enough you can compensate with pups like Evo7, AirNorton7 or the like.
Ibanez also did a good job with the new pots, as the volume reacts now much smoother. I put in an aftermarked pot into my old one to do that, you can forget about this mod with the new model.
Sustain is also very good with this guitar.
To sum the sound section up: This is a really good 7-string and for me the next best thing to a UV and it sounds awesome.

| Action, Fit, & Finish |
Now I don't know if I was lucky or Ibanez upped the prestige standard a bit again, but the guitar I tested was really well finished. Flawless coating, excellent fingerboard and all frets well rounded and polished. Even the intonation was very good, a thing that I always check with Ibanez guitars. The action was slightly higher than I prefer, but excellent for a factory setup. It was easy to adjust it to my liking, which is similar to the standard setup Rich offers.
Playability is still a dream, the neck did not really change compared to my old one, except for the new added wood just before the headstock. But I never go there with my hand, so it did not bother me and should improve stability. All in all I was impressed with the built quality and can recommend this guitar to anyone, as it is also one of the cheapest prestiges available. You can get deals as low as 1000 bucks for a new guitar.
Some people complain about the new trem. While I still prefer the EP or lo-Pro, the EZ grows on me and is nowhere near as bad as some people complain about.

Well my old 1527 is still holding up. So I guess the new one will be similar.

If seven strings are your thing!
| Sound |
This 7 string is one of the if not the best in the market. Yes, the Ibanez Universe is a great 7 string guitar as well but, for the price and overall quality the RG1527 is well worth it! The stock pickups are punchy and can cut through so if you're not one to mind stock pickups you'll be more than happy to leave them. The versatility of this guitar is absolute no matter what style you call your own. I've played this guitar through well known amps such as Marshall and Mesa/Boogie with D'Addario strings.
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
Factory setup it still played like a dream. The tremolo, an Edge Pro 7 was smooth and resilient. In B standard the tone was refreshing through the basswood and the finish was solid and beautifly simple.
|
| Reliability & Durability |
I could never see needing another 7 string model unless of course Ibanez made one to my specs.

The neck is a prestige Wizard 7, the tremolo is an Edge Pro 7 and the pickups really kick!

The only bad thing about this guitar is that it's still not cheaper!

Awesome(x7)
| Sound |
The guitar sounds great. The 7th string adds this really satanic, beautiful, warm tone (that's the only way I can describe it.) You can get a large variety of sounds, you can play anything from death metal to pop to jazz. I don't use any effects at the moment, so my guitar goes straight into my amp (line 6 spider 3) and it sounds beautiful. The stock pickups aren't that great though, I put a dimarzio d-activator set in the guitar and now it sings!
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
The guitar was set up very well by Rich from Ibanezrules, I got the silver package. I can abuse the tremolo and it won't go out of tune.
|
| Reliability & Durability |
The guitar holds it tuning very well. The finish is a bit thin, but I like it that way since a thick finish blocks the tone of the guitar.

An excellent sevenstring at a decent price.
| Sound |
Like most people, I'm not too crazy about the stock Ibanez pickups. You can pretty much plan on swapping out the pickups prior to purchasing. It's a relative easy fix and its worth doing. The basswood body and Rosewood neck resonate very well. The wizard neck is very comfortable and the transition from going to a six string to a seven wasn't very difficult on the hands. I used this guitar with a Mesa Dual rectifier and it slayed! Depending on what pickups you opt for, this guitar will easily compete with some of the more expensive sevenstrings on the market. Ibanez is no stranger to Metal and neither is the prestige 1527.
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
The action straight from the factory was fairly decent. Ibanez usually puts a little more relief in their necks than I typically like, but that is purely subjective. Right out of the box, this thing is well intonated and ready to go. The finish was impeccable and very clean. Another great thing about the prestige models is they come with the best guitar cases. The cases are practically bullet proof. They would hold up great if your a touring musician.
|
| Reliability & Durability |
All of my Ibanez guitars have been reliable. There is no need for a backup guitar when you have a prestige Ibanez on hand. The paint finish is very thin and dents easily, but that is purely cosmetic anyway. The tremolo can take a beating and still return to pitch. This is a great workhorse!

Never had to deal with Ibanez directly.
|
| Liked about it |
1.) I loved the neck. The Ibanez Prestige models have the best necks on the market hands down!
2.) The prestige cases are incredible. Very durable.
3.) Did i mention these have the best necks ever?
|
| Didn't like |
Not a fan of the stock pickups. Like most guitars, the pickups are never anything to get excited about. Also, I wish Ibanez sprayed a few more coats of paint on the guitars. The finish is literally paper thin. You can plan on your guitar taking some dings.

This one goes to SEVEN
| Sound |
These pickups adn this guitar give you a very bass-like thud from a typical combo amp. I found I had to drop the bass and brigh the mids right up to make it sound like a six string! What I was expecting was a seven-string that played like a six-string, and I didn't get that. I was expecting the same feel as my RG series guitars, but this is a completely different animal. But once you reconcile yourself with that fact, and you get comfortable with its different tonal properties, its a very pleasurable experience. In my opinion its far too dark for my needs, but I'm sure if you changed the pickups it may make a difference.

Guitar was set up perfectly from factory. No flaws at all... Japanese made!
|
| Liked about it |
1. Its a budget seven-string fun-filled adventure.
2. It is great looking, I really like the royal blue finish.
3. The action, the trem system, all INFALLIBLE. Perfect as always from Ibanez.
|
| Didn't like |
1. Needs more finishes.
2. DOES NOT feel like a six string. Sounds and feels like a bass at times.
3. Stock pickups are average, and are far too dark/muddy for anything I play, rock/blues, but might suit a more metal based musician.

Awesome Guitar

From clean to metal this guitar is ready to rock!
Mine has D Actvators 7,the factory ones weren't bad at all but I love dimarzios.
One of the best guitars I've played since 1994.
I wish it had other finishing(s),still it's awesome.

Great guitar for it's price!
| Sound |
Great sound for extreme riffing. A think it is a bit too dark, because of the factory pick ups and the Basswood body. The 5 way switch makes it very versatile from bright cleans, to a metal hi gain distorted sound (Depending on the amp you are using.)
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
I loved it from the minute I owned it. The setup came from the factory and I liked it a lot. Properly bookmatched top, properly routed bridge, no manufacturing flaws at all. Great from the beginning.
|
| Reliability & Durability |
I've had this guitar for about 2 or 3 years now, and it still looks brand new. I would depend on it, but I always have another backup guitar because I don't trust completely any electric guitar with floyd. The finish is very durable... as I said, my guitar still looks brand new after 2 or 3 years of abuse and constant live playing.

Sounds amazing (Even better if you change the factory pick ups)

I have had some trouble with the tunning stability when using the tremolo bar.
The factory Pickups
I think this guitar would have been flawless with better Pick ups and with a fixed bridge!

Solid guitar, bit overpriced
| Sound |
guitar sounds very rich more mid than trebly sounding and not too dark, sounds are versatile because of the 5 way switching I swith from a complete clean to a crunchy blues to a heavy rock sound and with the switching and tone knob fickering you can dial in your sound
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
Guitar was setup as standard, the standard strings are a joke and the low B flaps like an elastic. I advise to change the strings and dont use standard 7 sets. Change pick ups as they sound way to compressed. After I setup the guitar to the way I like it I was blazing away!!
|
| Reliability & Durability |
good solid guitar, the 5 piece neck and the volute makes it very rigid, finish is easy to chip(nothing major though just small marks), banged it off the table a couple of times when setting it up, the chrome on the bridge wears out fast but thats aesthetics. Its a trem guitar so I always bring backup guitar.

It's an Ibanez 7, enough said
| Sound |
Amazing sound through and through. It sounds absolutely beautiful clean and downright atomic when pushed. The factory pickups are pretty good but some feel can use an upgrade. I think they are fine.

Just like my UV777BK, came to the front battle ready. Finish is of the highest quality which I think is a notable trait of Ibanez instruments.
