Ibanez RG2550Z
Sound
After opening the plastic-bodied case to reveal my brand new RG2550Z, I was quite happy. I plugged it in and began to play. As with most RGs, the middle pickup just gets in the way so I lowered it into the body. The neck pickup ate up distortion like it was nothing. It still offered a good sound, albeit muddy. The bridge pickup was decent, but it didn't offer the screaming harmonics most RG players look for. I was using .009 Super Slinky strings into a 120-watt Line 6 with a Boss DS-1 pedal. Overall, I wasn't very happy with the sound. But I knew that going in. The DiMarzio-IBZ pickups aren't really known for being "killer" humbuckers. Plus, I already had a pickup selected for the bridge, a genuine Bill Lawrence L-500XL. I had the pickup installed and the luthier had some interesting things to say about the guitar...read on. The pickup change made this guitar super hot.

Action, Fit, & Finish
As with any Prestige, it was a brilliant guitar all around. Oh God...the neck is so smooth and the finish on the frets is spot-on. Well the action was high. Higher than I'm really willing to play, plus I'm one of the anal players who has to have everything the way I like it when I play. So when I had my pickup installed I asked the luthier to lower the action and make sure all the frets were level. When I picked it up he said he didn't charge me for finishing the frets because they were "PERFECT." I appreciated his honesty and I was happy to know this guitar was so well-put-together. I ordered the axe from Guitar Center's website...so I wouldn't have to deal with the clowns that work there. It's always a good move, in my opinion. (sorry if you work there haha) But, I did raise the neck a little and the bridge a lot. My technique is to pull the trem back as far as it will go and raise it up to right before it would hit. This, I find, gives me the best sound and least affect on sustain.

Reliability & Durability
Reliability? Hmmm, well the Edge Zero started buzzing so I shoved crap everywhere I could think of the sound coming from and it did nothing. I already disliked the Zero trem for MANY reason, so I just decided to sell the guitar for another one with an original Edge. The finish on the guitar seemed to be thick as hell. Thicker than most of my other Ibanez RGs so I liked that. The Galaxy White was definitely the way to go. (I was going for a Jake E. Lee look.)

Didn't contact them but Ibanez is usually very good.

Liked about it
I loved the finish. I can't tell you how many people complimented the guitar when I played and then they would notice the gold flake and say it was perfect. It really was. The pickguard was also really nice.

Didn't like
I didn't like the Edge Zero, DiMarzio/IBZ pickups, or the fact that I couldn't cary it around town without looking like I was a jerk. haha Really, just those two things.
