The specific model reviewed is ESP LTD EC-1000 Deluxe Vintage Black.
The guitar is made of mahogany in both neck and body, with ebony fretboard. The wood gives you a nice low end which comes through beautifully. Also with it's Tonepros locking TOM bridge adds to the unplugged volume as well as the overall sustain. With it's EMG active pick ups (60 in the neck and 81 in the bridge) you get a great combination for hard rock and metal leads and rhythms. This model is also available with passive Duncans if active pick ups is not your thing.
The neck is 24 3/4 scale, which was a first to me. Having only had 25 1/2 scale necks in the past, I noticed no other changes than the need to use .010's in stead of .009's. The frets are XJ as most modern electric guitars come in.
The greatness in this guitar is also in it's cutting. The so called "tummy cut" where the guitar meets your stomach makes it more comfortable to wear live. Also on the underside near the highest frets it has a nice cut away for easier access.
For increased tuning stability the guitar comes with locking tuners.
Other features worth mentioning is the three-way switch placed as on a Les Paul, which takes some time getting used to. Two volume knobs and one master tone knob. All hardware on this model in gold, which matches the matte black finish.

| Action, Fit, & Finish |
Out of the box (case not included for LTD models) the action was close to spotless. Pickups set accurately, no dents or scratches, well intonated and all electronics working as they should.
The guitar was bought through Thomann in Germany and I knew the guitar would be inspected before being shipped. All I had to do when plugging it into an amp for the first was to tune it.
And as it comes with ESP strings I quickly switched to my preferred brand.

| Reliability & Durability |
Definitely dependable. All aspects of this guitar is high quality and solidly assembled. I always bring a back up guitar even for rehearsals but I rarely bother playing any other guitar after getting this guitar. From the first strum it became my number one, though it's far from the most expensive guitar I've got.

Great sound and looks.
Comes with quality hardware and pickup's (Ibanez, take notes).
Locking term or fixed bridge? Active or passive pick ups?The Deluxe line gives plenty of options.

Doesn't come with a case.
The Earvana nut is discontinued.
Gold finish does wear off with time.

An axe worthy of the Heavens!

I MUST MENTION I HAVE THE MODEL WITHOUT THE TREMOLO!!! I play METAL from Death Metal - Grindcore and im easily able to achieve the sounds and tones I want! I play out of a B-52 Half Stack along with a 10 band EQ and a Twin Tube Mayhem Pedal! This guitar has an EMG 81/60 set which compliment each other very well, they are incredibly clean on low volume and completely insane when cranked up!
The EMG 81 is rich and Bright and has that fast cutting sound which is great for solos/leads and low end stuff! Although when it comes to cleans, The EMG 81 may sound a bit harsh but thats where the EMG 60 comes in!
The 60 backs off a bit, It gives you an ideal combination of single-coil bite and clarity with humbucker punch and sustain- It has tremendous cut, its crystal clear and very brilliant! You can strum across full chords and hear every note or you can deliever brilliant single notes with perfect clearity! The EMG 60 is probably one of the best pickups for quick clean chording! Its Also great for soloing but is More suitable for Rhythm and guitarists who like to play jazz/Funk! It may have more base then the EMG 85 but its more smooth and not as muddy(More alive then the 85)You can get that nice bone Crunching rhythm sound.
Another great feature is the Sustain on this axe, its just amazing, It lasts for quite awhile!! no compression pedal needed! The Pinch harmonics can be done on almost any fret and very easily with either pickup!! They're nice, long, piercing sounding harmonics! The tone of this axe isnt going to limit you, Its a great sounding guitar! I can achieve any tone I want(10band EQ)and can achieve it easily with ease on this Axe!

This guitar is like a Gibson Les Paul but 10x better and 100x more sexier ;) It may have the body of a Les Paul but thats where the similarities END! It has a Mahagony Set Neck which is a Thin U neck Contour with a Rosewood Fretboard! It has 24 XJ Frets that are marked with Abalone Flags! It has a Mahagony body with Black nickel hardware and with a Tonepros Locking bridge and Tail that matches its ESP locking Tuners! It has one master tone, two volume knobs and a 3 way switch!
This guitar came Flawless! Every guitar I've purchase, I have to get the frets leveled but with this model, I didnt need to!(Fenders are notorious for having uneaven frets, IMO they're horrible guitars) The action was very low, Neck straighter then an arrow. The finish was clean and spotless! I did have my action lowered though to boarderline fretbuzz...Thats just me tho, I like my fingers to fly on my axes!!

It has a great built, It has superb sound!! and looks pretty damn sexy. I would easily bring this axe to Gig with on every show I play at! The guitar is well balanced, not to heavy and not too light and the controls are easy to access!! Why bring different guitars as a back up???(Thats how great this guitar sounds and plays) Just Bring two more Ec-1000s Just incase you gotta play on other tunings(You dont want to be tuning your guitar in between songs)

This guitar has the sounds, Looks and Playability of a guitar that would costs Thousands! I've compared this Guitar to Jacksons Dk2m, Schecter Blackjack and Hellraiser. The EC-1000 is lighter, has a skinnier neck(compared to schecter) and just beats them in quality, Feel and Sound! I liked Everything about it! from the Action, fit, finish, sound and comfortness to the Quality!!! I'd highly recommend this guitar to any guitarist as it compliments any style perfectly! I own Jackson Soloists and late 80's Charvels and This guitar is played more then any other I Own!

If your into more skinnier Necks then Look at the M-1000. The M-1000 has the skinniest neck out of all the Deluxe series models. This guitar is a bit pricey but damn well worth every penny ;)
