Great guitar
| Sound |
Stock the guitar sounds good but not great. Upgrading the pickups would be a good thing to do. I updated mine with DiMarzio Evolutions in the bridge and neck, and a Ibanez S1 in the middle position and it sounds amazing now!
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
I bought mine used on eBay and it came to me with a bad setup so I had to re-set it up. If you do it right the Edge 3 tremolo is actually a pretty good tremolo, with the exception of when you rest your hand on it. Mine went way sharp with the slightest pressure on it. Adding a Hipshot Tremsetter will totally fix that problem. I will be changing the Edge 3, with a Edge lo-pro, but that's because I'm changing all the black hardware to gold. I love the feel and action on this guitar. Of course I set the action myself to where I want it. I actually like the Wizard 2 necks better than the Prestige Wizard necks.

I have had this guitar for a few months and I really do like this guitar a lot. I've been playing for 10 years now and have owned just about ever brand and style guitar in that time. I like the Ibanez RGs so much that I got a 1996 RG450DX in black with the mirror pickguard, and traded a guitar for a RG5EX1 in Grey Pewter. I am also looking into getting a RG7321 7 string soon, and all I will do to it is change the pickups to some kind of DiMarzio pickups though I'm not sure which ones yet. Both guitars have had pickup upgrades and Hipshot Tremsetters installed, and all three sound and play amazing. They can take pretty much anything that can be thrown at them and still play like nothing ever happened. I play agressively but not to the point my guitars get a lot of nicks and dings. I use them and I don't abuse them. I take good care of my guitars and the RGs have taken good care of me.

Great guitars that hold up really well, and with the above stated upgrades you can pretty much have a prestige sounding guitar without the $800+ price tag. Stock they are good guitars, that if on a budget can't be beat. These guitars are a good intermediate step up for beginners who have outgrown their beginner guitars, and the price tag isn't to big for a beginner to step up to it.
|
| Didn't like |
I like I said above the Tremolo is so sensitive that just barely resting your hand on it will cause it to go sharp, but that's an easy fix with the Hipshot Tremsetter. The stock pickups are good but not great. So if you're looking for an amazing sounding guitar unless you want to upgrade the pickups this guitar is not for you.

paid 150.00 well worth the money.
| Sound |
i know these cheaper ibanez guitars get the stick. but this one was an anomaly for me. It is one of my best playing guitars . here is a song i did with riffworks and the guitar.also the stock pickups may not be some peoples cup of tea but for home recording they really stand out and have a great tone about them.
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
the action when i got it was terrible .after a good setup this guitar absolutely was mindblowing for a korean guitar which i think korean is rare for this guitar.the finish is very attractive almost like the jem 7v with black hardware.it seems well made for the money .the tremelo bar just shoved in metal to metal without bushing like the high end one i wouldnt suggest getting this guitar if you use a tremelo alot .
|
| Reliability & Durability |
reliable body, paint ,and neck ,but the tremelo could use alot advice from a real floydrose.the paint on it seems to hold up well and the pickups and electronics are fine after some time now.i definetly would not gig this guitar due to the unstable bridge but for home recording and the price most definetly a good guitar for that.i did get a hair line crack in the finish by the allen screws holding the nut in place but seems to be in the finish not the wood.

| Customer Support |
i never had to deal with ibanez but their website shows good instructions on setting up the floyd rose and also has good wiring diagrams if you need to install pickups.

| Liked about it |
i love the way this guitar played after a good setup i swear it plays like butter.
the sharkfin inlays and white body with the pearl pickguard makes me feel like im playing my jem 7v looks good.
the tone was nice and soft on this one and really hits the spot for some of my recording needs.
|
| Didn't like |
the tremelo obviously not stable i think if it had a good tremelo it would be my favorite sounding and playing guitar.
i wish it had gold hardware like the jem but hey its not a jem and if it was it would cost more like 2,500 dollars lol.
i definetly think the pickups could have more help in the single coil area the others seem fine to me .

Lokks amazing but....
| Sound |
The output and tone of the pick ups are absolutely poor. Very muddy and it is really difficult to get a good sound with them, so they NEED to be changed. I usually play Metal and Clean stuff occasionally (acoustic stuff and gypsy jazz) and No the pick ups did not suit either style, just screechy and thin. I played this guitar through my VOX AD50VT and it had Daddario 9 to 42 strings on it :)
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
The guitar was set-up pretty well, the Edge 3 didn't really go out of tune from factory set-up but after a string change it really started to get worse and wear out quicker. Some of the frets on the guitar were a bit rough and unfinished and scratch plate wasn't evenly cut out. Pick up height didn't really matter on the guitar because it didn't make a difference.
|
| Reliability & Durability |
I wouldn't take it to a gig without a backup due to it going out of tune easily and having a poor quality bridge that wears out really quick.

1. Poor bridge

3. Price
I wish the price was different, cheaper so it would match the quality of the guitar, then there would be no complaints.

Awesome Guitar!
| Sound |
The stock pickups are not that great but with an upgrade this guitar can be more awesome. It's a very versatile guitar with 2 humbuckers and a single coil. You can play anything from Jazz to metal and everything in between! If you're into playing shred/progressive music like myself then I recommend the Dimarzio Evolution in the bridge, Dimarzio Fast Track 1 in the middle, and a Dimarzio Air Norton in the neck as that is what I am currently using. The guitar was bright and hot, perfect for playing like John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Paul Gilbert. I play this guitar through my Fractal Audio Axe Fx Standard which is connected to my Tech 21 Power Engine 60. Standard Tuning with a Set of 9-46 Elixir Nanoweb strings.
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
When I bought the guitar from my local Guitar Center brand new I had them install the pickups and they did a setup to my specifications and it came out fantastic! The action was low and buzz free and played smooth as butter. String tension was perfect with no flubbing yet not so round sounding. The finish looked great, no flaws in the wood or paint. Electronics cavity was neatly wired and clean. Pickups, Trem, Trem Cavity were Routed very well. Pickup height was set to my liking by the guitar tech. One thing I need to mention is the bridge, the Edge III is a nice bridge for someone's first trem it's stable and stays in tune. However it does not stay in tune very well if you like to abuse the trem. I would recommend upgrading to a Original Floyd Rose or other Ibanez Trem that is direct replacement (can't think of the name at this time).
|
| Reliability & Durability |
I've had this guitar for about 4 years now and it still plays as good as it did from day 1 (with regular visits to the tech)and everything is still great. I'm no professional musician by any means but I do go out and jam with my buddies and the guitar never has any issues when I take it out of my home. If I was gigging I think it would be still just as reliable and durable, I have no doubt that I would gig with it and not bring a backup. The finish still looks new no wear or tears except maybe pick scratches which is normal for a guitar that actually gets played daily.

Never had to deal with customer support. This is a very nice quality guitar!
|
| Liked about it |
1. Price to Quality ratio - It's not a high end Ibanez but it's durable, easy to play and versatile for the money!
2. Wizard 2 neck - the neck is nice and thin but not 2x4 thin, I can play chords effortless. In my eyes the neck is the biggest thing to tell me if the guitar has great playability or not.
3. Variety of pickup tones - The way I have it setup is I get plenty of humbucker tones and I can get strat tones as well, this guitar is a one trick pony!
|
| Didn't like |
1. Edge III Trem - Stable trem however goes out of tune easily if you like to abuse it (think steve vai abuse).
My gripe is I wish it didn't have a pickguard, it's an excellent guitar and I'm just not a fan of pickguards. But the playability and versatility made me buy it.

Great guitar for the money
| Sound |
Typical Ibanez RG. The Wizard III neck seems thinner than the other necks Ibanez used on this guitar. It has INF3 (bridge), INFS3 (middle) and INF4 (neck) pickups, which are not that bad at all. Not as high gain as other pickups, but they are well rounded and sound nice. The Edge Zero II trem seems to work well. I lubricated the pivot points with some graphite/teflon lubricant mixture and the trem seems to return right where it's supposed to.
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
I had to lower the action a little bit when I got it, but that's to be expected. Some people expect a guitar to come to them exactly how they would want it to be set up. We all know that's not going to happen due to many factors. Every person likes different action, plus going from one climate to another will throw the setup off and you might have to adjust the neck a little bit.
As far as the finish, I was unable to find any flaws in the white finish. It looked very good. The fit of the neck and body seems tight.
|
| Reliability & Durability |
The guitar feels like it would last for a while. I NEVER bring only 1 guitar to a gig. Even the best built guitar might develop a problem right in the middle of a song.

Abnormally Good
| Sound |
The sound is ok. The stock pickups aren't great but they'll do the job. If you aren't looking for any special flare to them then they do fine. The tone you get isn't anything special. They are only stock and the guitar is mid range in price so nothing special is expected. I normally play through a Line 6 Spider 3.
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
They finish is great. The paint has held up well after 2 years. It is still in perfect condition. The white pearloid pickguird looks cool with the black bridge and hardware. The setup from the factory was decent. It wasn't anything to brag about (not a surprise). After I properly set it up it played like a breeze.
|
| Reliability & Durability |
The guitar is dependable. It isn't the best for bringing to a gig. I would recommend a backup guitar but you could get away without one. The finish has stood up for 2 years without a chip. They neck is a little thicker than other wizards but it still plays super fast. They edge 3 trem isn't great but it is good for home practice or jamming. The guitar is only a mid level guitar so the parts aren't as good as a higher end but overall the guitar is a good bang for the buck.

Great guitar.
| Sound |
Well, the guitar is really excellent. I really love playing metal, rock and blues on it. It looks great, the pickguard is the same like Steve Vai has, and all. It's a good guitar for the money if you replace here and there the electronics or the tremolo.
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
It was all great, came in tune, I had nothing to do but shredding it ;)
|
| Reliability & Durability |
This guitar is definitely not a stage guitar, its only good for home-using, because of the Edge III and the pickups.

- the good looking pickguard (scratchplate)
- the neck (it feels really good in the hand)

- 5-way-switch (broke after a Randy Rhodes toggle solo)
- Potentiometer (no quality)
- Poti knobs (they always fall off)
- Output jack (had to replace it after a lil time)

Save up for something better!
| Sound |
As others have said, the stock pickups are not alot to shout about. Muddy, undefined and lacking in character.
|
| Action, Fit, & Finish |
Mine came with one of the worst fret jobs I've ever seen on a guitar. How it past QC I'll never know. The Edge III bridge lasted for about two months, after that simply tapping the tremolo bar would knock it out of tune.
|
| Reliability & Durability |
After two years, the locking nuts were stripped, as were the intonation screws, sping claw screws, and sting lock screws. Essentially, it became impossible to adjust the guitar, change strings, etc.

A Monster

The sound is great... For stock pickups! I can get anything from jazz to Metallica! One of the other guitar teachers where I work still uses my guitar to comepare sound with other stock pickups...But they are still stock. ;)

Set-up was perfect, the action may have been a little to close for me. At first I couldn't get the guitar to stay in tune but after fussing with it long enough, it never goes out!!!!

I could throw this baby in the air let it hit the ground and it would be ready for the gig! Me, I would still bring a backup, But I'd of course plan to use this the whole show!

Cool Guitar
| Sound |
It comes with muddy pups but at the end we all change pups.I used to play it with a pod x3 right to P.A.
At the end with the money I spent with fret job and better pups I could have bought a better guitar.

Mine came with a factory bad fret job, buzzes everywhere even with a high strings action.Trem springs used to make weird noises and trem never came back to the right place so it was always slightly out of tune.
