Turned someone else's nightmare into a dream. featured

Sound To me, this guitar sounds as good as any of the RG line from Ibanez. I've heard others say that anything below an RG5... is a "lower-end" model but I would disagree. Maybe below RG4... but I got this guitar on a lark and couldn't be happier with it. I found it on a prominent auction site for just over $100. The owner was dismayed that, as others have noted, the Cosmo Black hardware had tarnished (it does that) and that the bridge pickup had quit working. I won this auction and the guitar arrived in need of some attention. The fret board was incredibly dry, the control knobs were loose, and the strings were dust. I removed the strings, oiled the fret board, and put on a fresh set of Dimarzio .008's. There's just something nice about not having to re-float a tremolo. I replaced the tarnished control knobs and tightened the pots and tuners. I opened up the control cavity and re-attached the detached bridge pickup wire and it came back to life. Simple. The stock "Designed by EMG" pickups are ok and produce mostly flat, mid-level tones. I have since replaced them with a Crunch Lab/Liquifire combination and now this guitar plays wicked fast with burning tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish The fixed bridge is easily adjustable and now I have the guitar set up with .008's silly low and fast--I can get monster bends out of this guitar. Plays so nice I almost don't mind the Wizard II neck!! The Blackberry Sunburst finish is nice and deep offsetting the hardware nicely. It's obviously a veneer but that's what you'd expect at this price point.

Reliability & Durability The guitar is solid--I don't know what happened with the previous owner but with a little care this guitar has been rock-solid and stable. I would easily gig it without a backup, especially since it's fixed-bridge!

Customer Support Haven't dealt with Ibanez support--no experience there.

Liked about it Excellent price-to-value ratio.
Reverse headstock RG!!!!!
Fixed bridge makes setup a breeze.

Didn't like Wizard II neck -- blech.
Stock pickups are a little flat.

Metal Machine featured

Sound The stock pickups sound pretty good for what they are, they are very well balanced pickups, i have since replaced them with an EMG 81 85 Combo. I play anything from punk rock to metal, i use my Ibanez TB100R amp, and usually some effects pedals from Boss or Behringer, and with all this i can get almost any sound i want. The bridge pickup is nice and bright and the neck pickup is on the warmer side which allows the guitar to have a well balanced sound. It came with 10 gauge strings on it and i haven't changed the gauge since.

Action, Fit, & Finish The Wizard II neck is perfect for me, its not thin yet not thick either its right in the middle. The stock action was good, pretty much played well straight from the box (the shop i bought it from did the setup). The finish is excellent no "orange peel" and no imperfections, only a few dings in the headstock on one edge, but that maybe from the shop. The first time i played it all it needed was a tune everything else was spot on.

Reliability & Durability The Cosmo hardware is pathetic within 1 month it looked terrible, it wears away extremely quickly. Apart from that its pretty good, the tuning slips out if you don't bend the strings in. The finish is still top notch, just a few scratches here and they're due to me, but still almost looks showroom fresh, i just give it a polish every now and then.

Customer Support Never had to deal with Ibanez or the store i bought it from

Liked about it The Neck
The Stock Pickups for what they are, their pretty good
The Look of it

Didn't like The Cosmo Finish on the Tuners, Bridge and Pickup rings
The Burst finish is only on the front not all the way around

Somewhat Disappointed in This Guitar

Sound I realize you get what you pay for, but I had initially heard good things about this model so I decided to give it a try. These models I believe are special makes for GC, MF, and AMS type of stores. I purchased mine from a local GC. The sound was not really pleasing to my ear. Both pickups sounded muddy with not very good note definition.

Action, Fit, & Finish The finish was actually very nice for the price. The action and fret work was a different story. After 1 full week of working with the neck, the intonation, string height, and the neck relief I realized that there was no saving this guitar short of having it completely refretted. There were several spots all over the neck where notes would plink out and die. There was no sustain to be found on this guitar. I've heard from several others with the same experience with this guitar. The fret job on these guitars are very inconsistent and mostly bad all around.

Reliability & Durability It's a lower end Ibanez so one should expect what they pay for. It will stay reliable as long as you take care of it.

Customer Support I decided to return it back to GC using their 30-day refund policy.

Liked about it The finish was nice looking.

Didn't like The pickups were very muddy with no note clarity or note definition. The fretwork was badly executed.

Solid Buy

Sound I primarily use this guitar through a Pod X3 Pro to record rhythm tracks for demos. Sounds solid stock, but i would (and will) invest in an upgrade in pickups.

Action, Fit, & Finish Guitar was solid upon arrival as far as setup and looks great. I'm a huge fan of the reverse headstock.

Reliability & Durability I've just made it to the 6 month mark with this one and so far no issues at all. Still going strong with nothing but a string change to get some 9's on there (came with 10's stock).

Customer Support Haven't needed anything from Ibanez on this guitar so far, but they have always been helpful to me with any type of gear.

Liked about it Positives: Finish, construction and setup.

Didn't like Pickups are ok, but could do with an upgrade.
