Great Metal Guitar

Sound I had one of these a few years ago, when I was in a more metal phase in my music personality. I liked the cosmetics of the guitar with it's matte black finish and bat inlays and the carved top. It's a subtle metal guitar in that it doesn't have the usual points/angles of something like a BC Rich or the like. The neck's a little on the wide side but not too bad for people with average sized hands. It gives good string spacing for shredders' sweeps and alternate picking runs. I've come to prefer a tighter fretboard radius but I never had a problem with the Damien's flatter fretboard. As I said, I got the guitar for mostly metal playing and the HZ pickups in it were pretty good for that. The pickups did not sound all that great on clean settings but were more than adequate for hi-gain tones. I think the HZ pickups favor a more processed tone and are good if you plan to run it with lots of distortion and other effects. For stock pickups, they were pretty articulate for solos and speed riffs. I only ever downtuned a 1/2 step, so I can't speak for lower tunings, but I found the pickups to have good chug and grind for brutal stuff. They were never noisy for me. Sustain was also never an issue as I tended to run it with a lot of distortion and compression. The liscenced Floyd was solid and stayed in tune with what abuse I threw at it. It didn't flutter all that well, so you might want to look elsewhere if that's a big part of your trick bag. I wasn't a big fan of the bar angle as it came out from the trem, it seemed awkward to me if I tried to pick while holding the bar. That is a personal taste issue though.
A friend of mine had one of these and complained that it was hard to cut through the mix. I never had any such problems and believe it was a user EQ issue more than a fault of the guitar. I bought the guitar for metal and hard rock and it was a very capable mid-level guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish I got this at Guitar Center so I assume it was setup at the factory and just looked over at the store. The intonation was out and the action was high, but otherwise, it was ok. The inlays were well done and the guitar was sheilded well in the electronics cavities. The sculpting was perfect and even from the strings to the end of the body. I liked that the knobs were set slightly into the route as well.

Reliability & Durability I gigged with it once or twice and it was just fine. As with all Floyds, a backup is recommended since the guitar will go out of tune if you break a string and it takes a bit longer to restring it since you have to unlock some parts with an alan wrench. I never had that problem the few times I took it out. I bumped the guitar in rehearsals a few times and while denting the finish, I never broke through it to the bare wood. Pretty solid.

Customer Support I never had to deal with them.

Liked about it 1. Despite it's lack of points and sharp angles, it has metal guitar looks. I'm a big fan of the bat inlays.
2. It's a solid metal/hard rock guitar. It stacks up very well to non-prestige Ibanez RGs, ESP LTDs, etc.
3. Good build and component quality for a reasonable price.

Didn't like 1. Not very versatile. I didn't mind this too much because I really only used this guitar for harder styles of music. It excells with distortion, not much else. I eventually got rid of it because I wasn't playing those styles as much and I needed a guitar that could produce a greater variety of tones.
