Very good

I just switched to the .73 mm version of this full time. I'd used it for acoustic guitar work for a while when I couldn't let go of the Tortex picks for electric. I'd used those for years but have now realized that I like these better. I feel like the sharper tip allows me to be more precise in speed picking. The bigger size is a better fit for my hands than the Jazz III, which are very nice but a bit too small for my tastes. They seem very durable and take a long time to wear out or chip. I also find the .73 to be equally good for solos as well as chordal strumming. It's got good dynamic range for expression and I do feel more in control of my attack than with the other picks I've used previously. I also find that the material seems to brighten my tone ever so slightly compared to the Tortex line of picks. I prefer that since it's always been easier for me to mellow an overly bright tone than to brighten a mellow tone.

1. Sharper point is excellent for precision.
2. Benefits of the Jazz III in a larger package is ideal for me.
3. Brightens the tone with my playing style.

The only complaint I have about these is that their coloration makes it tough to see find when I'm looking for one on my desk in the studio... ;)

"Jazz IIIs? Narf...they are so small!" - "Try this, dude!"
| Comments |
I recently started using these (1.14mm and 1.4mm) to complement my Dunlop Jazz III stiffos, exactly for the same reason many people hailed the arrival of the Ultex Sharp: it's a full-sized pick with the sharp tip of a Jazz III. Maybe I'll even swap for good, lol.
The Ultex Sharps have a slightly different feel than Jazz III, yet should be very familiar to users of regular-sized picks. The pointy tip increases accuracy and picking attack for many players, and I've seen the "oh wow, sh**" expression in many friend's faces when they tried sharp-tipped picks for the first time. Same with the Ultex Sharps. Their bigger gripping surface will make them compared to the small Jazz IIIs way more appealing to rather aggressive pickers. The Ultex material has a particular pick attack/sound/click to it, which is vaguely different than nylon, but as with everything, a matter of taste. Try them!

Great picks!

These are my 2nd favorite picks next to Dunlop's Tortex picks. Since the tip is sharper than most picks you can pick a lot faster. It's great if you play Thrash or Death Metal with fast and aggressive palm muting. They also control very well because of the tip. A down side I found with these is they dont grip as well as Tortexes since they are made out of a different material. But they are like Tortexes in one way: They last very long. I've used mine constantly for maybe almost 6 months and they haven't snapped or broken. They come in thicker sizes than Tortex picks, the thinnest being .73mm and the thickest being 2.0mm.

Dunlop brings the best of both worlds together in one pick.

The reason a good amount of my recent audio clips have been a little "off" the last few days is that I've been trying out these picks. They're a full-sized pick, but with the sharp pick attack of the Jazz III Ultex. It's taking me a while to get used to the feel of a full-sized pickup in my hand with the sharp pick attack of the Jazz III Ultex. The reason I originally switched to the Jazz III and ultimately the Jazz III Ultex is that the sharpness of the picking attack is incredible and really helps you hone your chops and fine-tune your picking. I like a thicker pick and originally ordered the 1.0mm and the 2.0mm but only the 2.0mm picks arrived, so that's what I'm trying. The grip is unfortunately not as stable as the Jazz III Ultex because the Jazz III Ultex has the corrugations and I find it easier to keep grip in cold/dry weather. The smooth surface of the Ultex Sharp 2.0mm makes it a little more difficult and I find the pick moving around more in my hand in cold/dry weather. However, if you like the sharp pick attack of the Jazz III but can't adapt to the smaller form factor, definitely give these picks a try. They may become a new staple of my collection as there's more pick surface for pick slides/rakes/etc. and I find it makes doing such maneuvers easier. Definitely worth a try. Bravo to Dunlop for bringing together great features of two great pickups.

Sharp pick attack of the Jazz III in a full-sized pickup.
Ultex material wears better.
Ultex picks produce a more clear note.

The smooth surface of the pick makes it tough to grip and/or adjust in cold/dry weather.

for some reason i had to get a size a lil thicker than i usually play. i used to play 1.0's but with these i needed the next size up (1.14)for it to feel right in my hands.
