Great cables, even considering the price
Comments
I have Planet Waves cables with the circuit breaker in them. These cables rock. They deliver great tone, and are very durable. Over the years, they have been a mainstay in my arsenal. I use the circuit breaker versions all the time now. I switch guitars frequently, and the circuit breaker eliminates the need to hit bypass on the amp while unplugging the old and plugging in the new guitar. These cables are built to last a long long time. When I first got the cables with the breaker, I forgot to reengage the breaker on stage, so I was playing but nothing came out. :) It was the first and last time that it happened. You learn from your mistakes quickly. Hopefully, you learn from mine.

While using these cables exclusively for many years, I have only had one instance where a cable got noisy. I switched cables that night, but went back to check it out the next morning. I unscrewed the plug cap (breaker side) and was amazed to find that there was no soldering inside. The cable was simply cut flat. So, I screwed it back in, pinched around on the cable and found where the problem was. It was right above the screw area. I then unscrewed the cap again, cut the cable slightly above where the problem was and screwed it back in. The cable was as good as new, and has been rock solid ever since. I don't understand the previous "unfixable if damaged" claim. Maybe they used different cables. But these are solid and VERY fixable. Even though I didn't have to, I could have brought it back for a replacement, because they have a lifetime warranty.

This is an extremely small gripe, and will probably not effect 99% of the population. The breaker is slightly bigger than a normal jack (of course). It's not much bigger, but big enough to sometimes make it hard to get out of an Ibanez S series guitar. The S series has a different cable canal than most and is skinnier than most. The problem isn't with the cable, the problem is really with the design of the S series guitars.

Great sounding cables, but unfixable if damaged
Comments
I purchased three Planet Waves instrument cables about 4 years ago when I was recording an album with one of my old bands. I had heard great things about them and John Petrucci was an endorsee, so I figured I couldn't go wrong. They ended up working out great for that project and for many years after. The gold plated plug and little 'teeth' that kept the plug from falling out of your guitar were great features. I also liked the heavy duty molded ends to protect the connectors. They rubber covering is pretty thick and durable. I had an incident where the cable made contact with a power tube in the back of one of my amps and actually melted some of the covering, but it was thick enough to have not melted through to the copper. I guess most important of all, they sounded great! Now the one drawback is that if something goes wrong, they are impossible to fix yourself because of the molded ends. I no longer use pre-made cables and instead, buy the parts and make my own. It is MUCH cheaper this way, and I can generally fix any problems I might have. There is a limited lifetime warranty on these cables and I should have saved my receipts because all of the Planet Waves cables I have purchased have god bad. Now I am not hard on my gear and I correctly wrap my cables and keep everything pretty nice, but cables have a tendency to get abused sometimes. So I would suggest anyone using these to save their receipts, just in case. Overall, great cables.

Stellar Waves from another Planet

I wouldn't have the technical knowledge to describe what exactly constitutes the design of these cables. But I don't feel many would go out and buy these cables based on a technical description. In plain language, they are great cables. Their signal is ultra-clean and the cables are reliable, which is the most important feature of any cable. I have mine for years, and it is guaranteed for life, which means when they do fail, I can pick one up a new one for free. While initially about four times more expensive than your average cable, I reckon they are worth it for the hassle-free life you'll have with them.

1. Great little design on the plug, allowing the cable to sit snug inside the jack, so there is never any annoying crackling, and wont slip out easy.
2. Lifetime Guarantee is always desirable.
3. Many stockists and distributors!

1. Price is high, and this is hard to swallow and requires trust in the investment.
2. Tangles up in itself quite easy.
Overall, the best cables I've played. Not as expensive as the elite cables that professionals use, but perfect for the experienced musician who wants cables that won't let him down mid-set.

Great While It Lasted
Comments
The first time I got my Planet Waves cable I was excited. It was 15ft. had a nice bulk to them, very soft in terms of flexibility. Add the fact that it had gold-plated plugs and a mini-bungee attachment for storing cables, and it was almost perfect...until I found that the plug ends' conductors were starting to get loose. I had to trim off the beautiful plug ends and replace them with Neutriks to keep them functioning. I really felt bad about having to trim off those plugs, but at least I still had a cable.
This was the very cable my friend lost when I was given the other brand name cable I reviewed. I was sad about it for a while, but at least he replaced it for free.

Extremely high quality

The sounds coming from your guitar are intended to be just that... YOUR sounds. The cables are not supposed to add their own backing tracks to your music. Most cheaper cables sound like crap, and break fairly quickly. I have been using the same set of cables for years now, with no change in sound. Comparable to monster's cables. (I recommend not buying one over the other, get whatever is on sale at the moment)

Great sound, gold plated tips transmit the purest sound possible to your amplifier, giving you a clean, undistorted tone. They have a good system to seal the plugs instead of cheaper clamp on methods employed by lower end companies. Bit pricey, but worth it! These things will save you money on replacing the cheaper, crappier cables.

The color swapping system for the rubber rings... ridiculous. Spare me the "look" and give me a cheaper product. Im not of fan of the "cosmetic" research they did on this, I am paying for engineering, not cosmetics. That said, thats my only real complaint on these things.

Good Range

The cables from Planet Waves are definately up in the highend league. I have tested several much more expensive cables and the Planet Waves can hold their own against each and everyone of them. Also the design of the plug is excellent and it sits really tight in the guitar.
The cable can be really abused on stage, trampling on it with your boots etc. and it will just work. I have yet to see any PW cable give in, while I had several others that started making sounds when abused so harshly.
The only thing that sometimes is a hassle is, that the cable is quite stiff and hence will easily entangle on itself. But I guess that is the sacrifice that was made for the sturdiness of the cable.
