Ibanez TSA15H Tube Screamer Amp

The Ibanez TSA15H amplifier head combines real all-tube tone with the classic distortion and drive of a TS9 Tube Screamer pedal. A pair of 12AX7s and a pair of 6V6 power tubes drive the TSA15H, providing gentle breakup when pushed. For rich fuzz and gritty overdrive, kick on the Tube Screamer circuit. Dual operation (15W pentode or 5W triode) gives you even more...

Tube Screamer with built in tube amp

Sound The guitar that I use range from Fender American Special HSS Strat, Gibson Traditional Les Paul, Ibanez RG1570 and PRS Torero. Right now this amp head is at my studio for practicing and recording. I played everything from blues, rock to heavy metal.

I have the guitar going into a Seymour Duncan SFX-04 Twin Tube Mayhem to the Ibanez TSA 15H and into a Bogner Alchemist 2x12 cab with Celestion G12M Greenback and Celestion G12H 70th Anniversary. I found this speaker combination to be better than was I was using at home with the Mesa 2x12 or Orange PPC 1x12. The

Ibanez TSA15h can be used in 5 watts or 15 watts. I found that the 5 watts just sound thicker, mushier, less articulate compare to the 15 watts mode. Changing the 5 to 15 watts just don't change the volume but the over tone of the sounds.

I used it at 15 watts and the clean is just like a Fender Pro Jr. Very nice clean and the it breakup nicely with tube screamer engage for playing blues. I wasn't able to use any delay or reverb in the FX loop as the FX loop is before the PreAmp. The FX loop sit between the Tube Screamer and the PreAmp. I did also compare the built in Tube Screamer to my TS9 pedal with the same setting and I found that the built in tube screamer actually sound better.

This amp can not do any metal at all by itself, that is why I have a Seymour Duncan SFX-04 in front of the amp. With the SFX-04 engage and 8DB boost also on, this sound like a Mesa Dual Rectifier orange channel in modern mode.

The amp with itself give me great crunch sound and the with the extra distortion pedal I got a hi gain metal amp. I thought about selling this because of the FX loop but I decide to give it another chance with different cabinet and this is a keeper.

Reliability I bring this amp back and forth from work and home and no issues at all.

Liked about it 1. Great built in Tube Screamer, less pedal to carry.
2. Bargain at $299
3. Light and portable.
4. Good clean tone.

Didn't like 1. FX loop is before the Preamp which make time base FX unusable.
2. Can use a Mid EQ beside the Hi and Low.
3. 5 watts mode is very muddy, as the tone change from 15 watts mode.
