Taking a risk but decent tones
| Sound |
I looked long and hard at getting one of these. I tried several in different stores and was impressed by the tones I was able to get. The clean was crisp without being sterile and warmed nicely when volume and over-drive (with pedal) were added. Chording still allowed each note to be heard individually and harmonics were light and airy. I was very impressed with the clean for the cost of this amp. The distortion was also good although it's voiced for a more metal tone (not my cup of tea normally). That said, I was looking at the amp to use the clean with pedals for my rock oriented tones, sounded great, and then the distortion channel for the few metal songs I enjoy. The lighter gains did not really do it for me on the distortion channel. Bluesy grit was more grit than bluesy. With EQ you could probably get a good crunch, but by itself, the mids were still a little scooped to get that AC/DC feel. Hi-gain was good to a point but after about 6 or so on the gain, I felt that it started to get a little flabby and muddy in the bass department. It was plenty for old school metal and some lighter modern metal but it could not do brutal stuff without tightening things up with a speaker change and additional EQ. The global knobs did provide some tone shaping, more apparent with higher volumes, so there are some tweaking options to refine your sound on either channel. I never got to try to line out.

| Reliability |
Here's where I have to take off some. I liked the tone of this amp enough that I was seriously considering the purchase and doing some research. It appeared from reviews Harmony Central that a lot of people have had various problems with this amp breaking down. Normally, I'm inclined to give the benefit of the doubt, but there were a lot of reports of this with more than one kind of problem. On top of that, some stores where I tried this amp had models that weren't operational or had problems. These could've been simple tube issues on some, but I was exposed to enough that it turned me off when I kept walking into a store to try this amp and something was wrong that it wasn't working. It's got good tones, so if you're lucky, go for it and it'll be pleasing.

I avoided having to deal with them by not buying the amp but in the reviews many people said their service was adequate although they do not cover shipping if you need to have the amp fixed.

1. Clean channel was pretty good, took pedals well and offered great versatility.
2. Distortion channel was great for hi-gain, old school metal and hard rock.
3. Lots of features.

1. You kind of get what you pay for. The amp is inexpensive but it has quality control issues. If you get a good one, you'll be set and for cheap, but if you get a bad one, I can see a lot of headaches.
