Egnater Rebel 20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head Black And Beige

Sure it's tiny, but do not mistake it for a toy. The Rebel-20 from Egnater is a truly professional amp head with features and sound that are anything but small. Inside you'll find three GrooveTubes 12AX7 preamp tubes, a pair of GrooveTubes EL84 ...

nice blendable amp - a great buy featured

Sound I generally play this amp with 4 guitars, a Gibson Les Paul, a Fender Am Deluxe Strat, a Jem 7VWH, and a Reverend SSC, so I get a tone of tones. I have been playing more standard rock, classics, like Zeppelin, Black Crowes, Free, etc. I can get about any tone I need to cover any of these pretty easily. The blending option on the power tubes is fantastic, and this little amp can crank it up pretty well. It has options for watts output and which power tubes to use to get the British tone or the California tones. The distortion gets pretty overdriven but not what I would call brutal. With the amp having only one channel I tend to get it to over drive and use my volume knob to clean it up, then hit a Fulltone OCD if I want to get over the top.

Reliability I have not played this amp out live, yet. I would play without a backup, it comes with a soft case so it has some protection, seems very well put together. With that said, I have never gigged without something for a backup.

Customer Support I have had no need, but I did read on a forum that some people were having an issue with the effect loop, and 2 people from Egnater came one and explained how to contact the company and it was taken care of immediately. I did not have this issue.

Liked about it Portability, great tone with the power tube blend, wattage selection

Didn't like I would love another channel. I would give this a 5 if it had another channel, but I am really able to use the volume knob to get the levels I need.

Nice blues rock amp

Sound I use a JS1200 with stock pickups to play mostly blues and rock. The Rebel fits the bill and offered a lot of nice tones in that genre. I found it able to get a solid blues overdrive and good classic crunch for rhythms. It does not have a lot of gain and anyone looking for a metal amp will need to boost it. Cleans were very nice, but I found it broke up pretty quickly (around 11 o'clock on the volume dial). At 20 watts, that's expected to some degree, but I would've liked it to remain clean a little longer before going into overdrive. It took the pedals I through at it very well both before the amp and in the effects loop. It is plenty loud for small gigs.
On a negative note, I found that I liked the amp better through an Epi Valve Jr. Speaker cab than the matching Engater 1X12. I think this was because the Epi was an open back while the Egnater was closed back and is my personal taste.

Reliability I haven't gigged with it but it's held up fine. I haven't had any problems with it and it seems fairly sturdy.

Customer Support I haven't needed to contact Egnater about this product, but I have contacted them in the past and received answers to my questions promptly. Bruce and some of the other high ups are good about posting on their forum as well.

Liked about it 1. It's a small tube head with plenty of volume that is extremely portable.
2. It has an effects loop.
3. Great over-driven tones for dirty blues players.

Didn't like 1. It's kind of a one trick pony without any pedals or other tone shaping things added to the signal.
2. The cleans break up very quickly. This leads into a further complaint that it should've been 2 channels with a dedicated clean and a dedicated distortion channel. That would've been very nice in this package
3. The Egnater speaker cab didn't sound as good to me as some other less expensive speaker cab options.
