Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Series 100W Tube Head Featured

The all-valve JCM800 2203 is one of the most highly respected 100W Marshall heads in the company's long history. Evolving from the legendary Plexi head, it was one of the first Marshall amps to feature a master volume control. The essence of ...

The Classic sound of the 80's.

Sound Using A Esp Ltd gl-600 tiger and a rg760 with seymour duncans i could cop just about any tone from any hair band from the late 70's to the early 90's. Dokken?, you got it. Cinderella? Got it! Skid Row? Got it!.
The amp produces a fair amount of hiss at high volumes but what head doesn't at some point. (note the model i've been using is the 2203) The cleans are good...not the best but very good. The distortion is good for everything from alt rock to the hardest rock (a7x use it)That being said it is not a Recto or a Bogner, but for what it is... it is magnificent. Few amps can be considered era-defining... this is one of them.

Reliability The 2203 has a great track record and for a good reason. I'd bring it to gigs without backups but my amps stay ridiculously well maintained and i gig out one a month these days and i never run the amp full out so i'm confident in that sense.

Customer Support I've never dealt with Marshall directly but usually it's hit or miss on foreign items.

Liked about it -Tone and crunch for days.
-It's got the looks
-Capt. Crunch incarnate.

Didn't like -Cost has skyrocketed.
-Not the most versatile amp ever
-Makes me wat to buy massive amounts of hairspray

Classic!

Sound The low gain input will give you a really sweet tone, drive it a bit and you can get a real "vintage" type of sound. As for the high gain input... it has really good distortion but if ya really want this thing to scream then put a good overdrive before the amp and watch out!!!

Reliability I use this amp at all our gigs with no backup amp. I have never had a problem with this head. But... I also have a road case for it and take good care of it. We play about 4-6 shows per month on average and I have never had a problem. The key to keeping any tube amp in good condition is having regular service done... like new tubes, bias and cleaning of the pots.

Customer Support I replaced the tubes and had it rebiased. Never had an issue with anything since. I'm sure the warranty is loooong expired. Never dealt with the company.

Liked about it Built like a tank.
Its simplicity and pure tone.
With the pre-amp dimed it's sounds very AC/DC.

Didn't like Heavy Weight, that's all :)

More than worth the money!

Sound Jason Becker used this head to record Perpetual Burn.
Everyone wants his sound, this is what he used!
JCM800 head, Boss SD-1 pedal and that was about it.
These amps could solve world hunger with its beautiful crystal clean sound then set the world on fire with its massive brutal tone.
Really one of the best heads ever made.

I love these heads!

Reliability These heads are built to last! I would take this head around the world and need nothing else.

Customer Support I have never had an issue.

Liked about it I love the look. No bells or whistles...VERY user friendly!
The tone, you will never find another head from the 80's that touches this head!
It is just so simple to use. Plug it in, turn it on, get your tone and you are in heaven!

Didn't like Hmm....I wish I had 10 of these! LOL
