Astounding Amp
Sound
I am currently using an Ibanez Rg120 as my axe of choice with the stock pickups. Keep in mind that they are high outout pickups. I play a variety of metal - from Power Metal to Technical Death Metal - I play a bit of it all, and this amp suits my needs perfectly. The amp is not noisy, all though at extreme high gain settings and the bass turned up to the max like me, you can get some pretty nasty feedback. If you are going for an Obituary or a Demololition Hammer tone, a noise supressor is not a bad idea. I play with the bass in the middle, no middle frequency, and the high frequency turned up to about six. But before the amp comes a Boss MT-2 Metal Zone pedal which gives me a little extra umpphh to it. It's settings are ; Level = Max, Bass = 3, High = 0, Middle = 0, Middle Frequency = 5, and Distortion is set to 3. But with that you can get a variety of sounds. I was very pleased. Everything from Country, to Pop, to the most extreme Norwegian Death Metal can be achieved. But their is a problem with the amp as is all high gain tube amplifiers... If you turn the volume up past five you get distortion. The problem can be fixed by backing off the volume knob a good bit, but it makes transistioning from clean parts to distorted parts a bit of a hassle. At high volumes the amp also sounds really bright, so much so that it hurts my ears. But I didn't but this amp for clean settings, I bought it for bone crushing distortion. The amp standard with the gain at max plugged into input number 1 creates a pretty brutal distortion. However, if you want to use the footswitch for easy switching between clean and lead channels, it takes a good mix between the pedal and the amp to achieve your tone.

The amp is very reliable. All peavey's are extremely reliable in my eyes. The amp is built very well. The knobs are secure. The straps are secure. The speaker is held down nicely. I would bring this amp to a gig with no backup easily. It can easily withstand day to day travels and gigs. The amp has never broken down and has never showed any signs of trouble. I have dropped the forty five pound beast a couple times, but the amp still plugs right up and plays along to whatever i throw at it.

Great product so no dealing with the company

1) It is an extremely loud amp for only being fifty watts. I have made pictures and books fall off of my walls and my bookshelves. Neighbors tell me that they can hear it at the street whwn my amplifier is tured up to five. I am scared to turn it up to ten because of fear of destroying other valueables.
2) The distortion buy itself was quite amazing. Turn the bass up to the max and you have great Obituary, Morbid Angel, and Dream Theatre sounds. I however had to use my Boss MT-2 Distortion Pedal to add some extra bass to my solos because I like a very bassy sounding solo with out using my neck pickup.
3) The reverb on the amp is the best reverb I have ever heard. I used to not even bother shopping for an amp that had reverb equipped, and I also didn't bother for reverb pedals. But I was playing around with the reverberation one day just out of principle, and I instantly became a fan of reverberation. It is a very natural sounding reverbation, it doesn't sound manipulated or over - excited at all, but very prim.

1) The amp has no line out for recording purposes. I was hoping that it would, but it didn't. So if you want to record a riff or something, you must go old school and hook it up with a microphone and record at the highest volume you can. Very annoying, and eliminates the option to record directly into computer software and use effects on a computer.
2) I was hoping that the amp was more footswitch friendly. I bought a LiveWire Solutions dual button footswitch, and there is a short fade in when switching between distorted and clean channels. While it makes for cool volume swells, it sounds very slapdash in recording or live situations.
3) The amp does make some noise when turned up to high volumes, and it creates an exceptional amount of feedback. But it isn't feedback that helps notes ring out like Slayer or Testament songs, it is more so a very annoying, and speaker harming hum that comes at a rather low frequency. You have very little room for error at high volumes. So much so that I have bought a noise supressor to help the hum and give me a ghreater room for error.

A rock solid, versatile, all-tube amp.
Sound
From nice docile clean tones, to light or dirty blues, to metal, this amp has got you covered - with that tube sound you look for! Clean tones are sweet and clear with ringing highs and pronounced lows; great for jazz or indie rock duty, even gospel. You wont find a much of breakup on the clean channel, its really clean - but there is a "bright" switch for spicing up your tones on darker voiced guitars or for just molding your sounds with pedals (which this amp takes incredibly well!) Now channel 2 is where all the fun is! The gain voicing on this amp is spectacular! It can go from subtle tube breakup, where indie rockers people that need a more transparent sound will find their voice - to an all out scooped metal assault. The sounds in between are great too! Being a tube amp, the amp responds (with great articulation) to the natural sounds of the guitar and your picking style in a very sensitive fashion. Each channel is equipped with its own EQ, and channel 2 also has a gain boost and volume boost. The Valveking has a global reverb that sounds fantastic, a true effects loop, and a tight/loose resonance switch. It also features an external speaker output for using a cabinet for live situations. The best feature of the amp is its texture control knob on the back. This allows you to mix between full Class A/ partial Class A/B power structures. What does this mean? You go from using full tube power (a little more tube sag sound and a little less distortion) to Class A/B mix (tighter sound, a little more distortion). This, in essence, allows you to dial in the perfect amount of grit and articulation you want for the amps voicing!!

This sucker is built rock solid! I've seen them stood on, kicked, had horrible things done to them on stage, and kept chugging. Peavey has outdone themselves again with building amps that withstand the rigors of constant abuse. Even for a sensitive tube amp, this sucker is a tank!

You can't go wrong with this amp, damn good!!
Sound
I use this amp mainly with my strat deluxe, but sometimes I'll plug in my Jackson dinky, I've noticed that on input 1 that is meant for passive pickups my Jackson with humbuckers really growls with dist I mean if you want nice dist 4 your humbuckers you better plug on input1 the input 2 is for active so it has less volume, some might want that...the clean channel is really really good is very pristine, and I always use the bright switch because I love that "fendery" tone (personal tastes) I crank the bass all the way up and maintain mids and treb at 1-2 o'clock and I also use pedals in front of the amp, and I have to say the amp makes justice of your pedals, of you dial them correctly it'll sound awesome!! At louder volume it does not crank, but I use my tube screamer and damn it sounds so f$#!ng good! The dirt channel is very flexible too, you can dial in some very chunky and heavy tones, and of you hook to the loop of the amp and EQ (like a boss) damn you get a true metal chunky rhythm sound, but I use the gain at 12 o'clock wich it's not much dist bit no overdrive, it's a really warm and nice sounding distortion, the volume booster and gain booster, man what can I say I really love this feature, I mean sometimes my band plays really loud, and I'm the lead guitar so when my solos come I get worried, but with this booster you get through the mix with no problem, it ads more gain and thanks god more volume, sometimes I'll turn on my tube screamer or my compressor for a more sustain kinda thing, but you really don't need to do that (again personal preferences) you definitely need to buy it, it's worth every single dollar, and thanks god I didn't spend much of them hahaha it's cheap and good sounding, well built, I gig very very frequently and I haven't had any problems with it, it has received punches, kicks, it has seen walls, it has rained many times over it( not much rain but, it's water...) and everyday keeps sounding better and better I'm so happy, maybe one day in the future I'll replace the tubes but not now for sure I'm happy with it right now, :)

Reliability
Damn are you serious? It's more then reliable, I've gigged I don't know 100 times since I got it, without mentioning rehearsals, (we rehearse ay my drummers house which is far away so I always travel everywhere with my valveking) it's built like a tank it has tube covers, some people take them away, but if I were you I wouldn't do that...why you'd wanna do that? They are there to protect the tubes....I love this amp, you can bring a back up but that would be useless you definitely would not need it.
