What a headache...just keep reading...

I'm always looking for the next best thing. I really like tone hunting. I saw a guitar world demo of the amp and wanted to check it out. I first played the Sig:X at a studio in Connecticut. I was amazed by all the knobs and switches. I could get a ton of different sounds out of it. Besides the basic Bass/ Middle/ Treble EQ, it has 3 different voicings per channel as well as a wood/ scooped switch for the channels 2 and 3 and a open/ fat switch for the clean channel as well as boost functionality on each channel. I could also control the gain very easily.
I set channel 1 up to get a clean plucking sound and used the fat switch in combination with my fuzz pedal for smooth santana leads.
Channel 2 I set up as my lead channel. I maxed out the gain and got a nice liquid smooth channel.
Channel 3 I scooped and set up like a dual rec.
This amp was proving to be a real tonal extravaganza. Then the headaches started...
It wouldn't matter what volume the amp was set at. The amp would give me an enormous headache no matter how I I set the knobs. Even when I played it at the studio for the first time, I got a headache, but thought I was just playing too loud. For about a week I tried to make it work. I tried soooooooo many different settings, but nothing worked.
The Sig:X seemed to operate on a frequency that gave me headaches. It was like a dog whistle: only dogs can hear the frequency of a dog whistle, and this amp must have been running at a frequency that only I could hear and as a result, it hurt my brain.
It's not a bad amp, I might be the exception on the Sig:x as most people I've talked to love it.

I bought the amp used and only had it for a week (the headaches) so I can't really comment on reliability.

Having a master volume on the clean channel would be helpful.
This really is a great amp, but for some reason it didn't agree with me. It was like going to a 5 star restaurant, ordering their signature dish and getting food poisoning while everyone else in your dinner party had a great meal.

Ultra Versatile Thick Sounding 3 Channel Head!
| Sound |
I used an Ibanez Prestige RG3120DR and a Vox AD212 cabinet for the video. No effects. Cabinet is loaded with Celestion Neodogs (similar or possibly the same as to the G12 Century Vintage). Clean channel is good, sparkly if you need it to be or twangy if need be and areas in betweeen. If you've never heard a VHT/Fryette amp's righteous rhythm tone you're missing out! The Sig:X is capable of more saturation than the Ultra-Lead. Juicy is a very good word to describe the lead channel.

I've had a VHT Ultra-Lead for a few years now. No issues whatsoever. VHT/Fryette amps are very reliable.

No interaction with the company other than at their Winter 2008 NAMM booth.

The versatility of this amp is up there with anything else on the market. Tones are thick and extremely clear. The cleans are great, light gain tones are great, mid gain tones are great, & heavy gain tones are great. Lots of switches that can make subtle changes to get you closer to the tones you hear in your head. I prefer 3 or more channel amps as they make live use easy (Clean/Dirty Rhythm/Dirty Lead) with the flick of a footswitch. It really is a lot of amp for the money as well. An American made all tube 3-Channel amp for $2K is a steal!

My only dislike is the lack of a master volume for the clean channel. The clean channel is a very responsive one and just like the other channels responds very well to volume knob channels. Close to perfect amp for me other than no master volume control for the clean channel.
