Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner

The Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner lets you shift to bypass mode for silent tuning with a single stomp. An eleven-point LED stream meter makes it easy to see when you're in tune (the movement of the meter slows the closer you get to pitch). Seven different modes provide options for both bass and guitar and a seven-segment display makes string and note names readily visible...

Made the Trade featured

Ease Of Use This is a super easy pedal to use. I got it in a trade and plugged it it and tuned right up. You stomp on it to turn it on and off. There is the chromatic mode which you can use to do any tuning. I switched from standard to drop c to open c with no problems. There is also flat and double flat tuning modes for bass and guitars. You can put it on stream or cent where the lights go by in a stream and center when you get the string in tune or in cent mode which will change to have the arrows and center light light up when in tune. You can change the tuner display to show note or string number. Chromatic mode is easist in my opinion because it goes to the nearest note your string is at and you can tune to anything from there. You can also do any drop tuning in chromatic mode.

Sound You can plug the pedal in so that it doesn't produce a sound and you can tune silently. You can also have it so that you can hear yourself while tuning through your amp.

Reliability You can depend on this day or night. I would bring it to a gig anytime and will do that. It is bulit to last.

Customer Support Haven't needed it.

Liked about it -Bright display
-Can't hear yourself tuning
-Built like a tank
-Chromatic mode is super easy to use and you can change tuning really easily
-Easy to change battery
-Can link multiple pedals with a daisy chain and only one power supply

Didn't like -Sometime when tuning a bass the notes don't track as well or come up right away with the correct note
-Rarely the tracking for guitar is slow (These aren't really a problem or a reason not to like it they rarely happen)

Great reliable pedal tuner featured

Ease Of Use Well, I am sure most guitarists either have owned or used the Boss TU-2 and know that it is pretty darn easy to use. Just plug in your guitar and pluck each individual string and tune away. They key to how good or easy a tuner is to work with depends on how accurately the tuner can track the string. As far as the TU-2 is concerned, it tracks pretty well. Not great, but very good. Good enough to use at a gig and at home; maybe even in the studio. I have used this with both my guitars and my basses, and with drop tunings as well. The lower you go on say, the low B string on a bass, the tougher it is for the tuner to grab onto that note, but it does do a good job. It also have a strobe mode, but it is nothing special, definitely not a true strobe. There have been several compact tuners made in recent years that are supposed to be better, but I haven't yet decided to upgrade. With that being said, I'll always keep my TU-2 around.

Sound I am using a Gibson Les Paul running a Egnater Mod 50 with SL2 and Bassman modules into a Marshall or Mesa 4x12 cab. Well, this pedal does not omit a sound, but it is supposed to have a pretty decent buffer in it. I keep my TU 2 second in my chain so I can take advantage of the buffer. A buffer helps to strengthen your signal which can be helpful if you are running lots of cable and lots of true bypass effects. Since the signal from your guitar is a hi impedance signal, it is easy to loose strength due to the capacitance of your cable. You'll notice a loss of high's if this is the case. I also use the silent tuning mode, which can be helpful if you want to tune silently (duh) or just mute your guitar between songs quickly.

Reliability I have never had any sort of meltdown aside from occasional difficulty tracking a note.

Customer Support Never had to deal with them.

Liked about it Reliable
Decently accurate
Good buffer

Didn't like Sometimes notes are hard to track
Needs better strobe mode
Might need to be updated to compete with more advanced stomp box tuners

The "benchmark" tuner pedal

Ease Of Use Very easy to use. No Issues, multiple tuning modes as well as chromatic.
Built with an easy layout, just mess with it a bit and you'll figure it out
or skim the manual.

Sound a variety of amps and cabs as well as ibanez, G&L, fender and gibson guitars.
It's a tuner, it needs to have no sound which it does but I like to keep mine off to the side
or on the alternate out of my A/B/Y switch just to keep it out of the way.

Reliability Has been the industry standard for years for a reason..
It's built to last through many many gigs which they do...

Customer Support I have dealt with boss on a few occasions when I needed parts
and manuals and they were always quick and helpful

Liked about it Get's the job done and has multiple modes as
well as being built like a tank..

Didn't like Costs quite a bit for a pedal tuner and a better model layout would be nice.. ..

Superb tuner

Ease Of Use Super easy to use!

Sound ummm this doesn't produce sound, it mutes everything when you use it which I personally like to be able to hear my strins ringing through my amp while I tune.

Reliability Mine looks like it's been through hell and back and it still works flawlessly. You won't find a more reliable pedal then boss...they are build like mini tanks

Customer Support never had the need to deal with the customer support, I'm sure they're as good as their product though.

Liked about it Easy to use, super dependable, not that expensive. When you play with a trem system like I do and your guitar goes out of tune eventually it's nice to have this standing by to tune. I never spend much time tuning because of how accurate this pedal is.

Didn't like I didn't like the glass/plastic crap casing the tuner lights are in, however i'm sure it serves it's purpose. That's all I didn't like about it

THE standard for tuner pedals.

Ease Of Use The TU-2 is very simple to use. One stomp to turn the tuner on, one to turn it off. The LED read-out is very bright, and provided in red so it can be seen on stage with no problems. When engaging the pedal to check tuning it mutes the guitar signal, thus acting as a 'kill switch' which can come in handy.

Sound The TU-2 adds nothing onto your signal, and provides true bypass, so you can run this through your pedal chain and not change your sound.

Reliability I have owned my TU-2 for about 5 years now, and have had no issues with it. Still looks and performs like new.

Customer Support I have not dealt with customer support. The Boss website has links to contact support if you need to, and even has links to product manuals in case you lose yours.

Liked about it Has settings that allow you to tune a 1/2 step down, and read-outs that either tell you the string number or pitch of the note. The pitch setting is helpful for downtuning.

Didn't like As with most Boss pedals, this pedal eats batteries for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a midnight snack. I highly recommend grabbing the Boss power supply if you pick this up. But that is a minor gripe compared to the benefits of having this on your pedalboard.

Best for the stage!

Ease Of Use Very easy to use, just 2 buttons on it giving you the modes, you have a choice between the stream or concert setting.

Sound Very quiet or a choice to bypass and you can hear your tuning if you like.

Reliability I bought second hand, but its like brand new, Taiwanese made. It's a Boss Pedal, you'd rarely ever experience problems with these. Definitely use it for gigs, very dependable, built like a tank.

Customer Support Never had to call Boss/Roland.

Liked about it The ease of just plugging in and being to use it straight away without any problems or having to set it up.
The very precise and Accurate tuning.
The choice between being able to hear your guitar tuning or not.
The reliability.

Didn't like It can take a couple seconds to load up. That's pretty much it as its an excellent pedal over all.

Great tuner

Ease Of Use It's just a pedal, you just plug when it's ready to go.

Sound It's a great tuner very accurate and easy to see in a dark stage but I don't see the reason of tunning your guitar in front of an audience.
Let it right beside your amp and tune your guitar or if you use rack stuff, put it there or buy a rack tuner.
You can tune your guitar with a lot of different tunnings and even tune your bass.
I think it's a bit pricey for a tuner cause probably all multi-effect processors come with a tuner.

Features

Mute/Bypass select for silent tuning with a single stomp
11-point LED indicators and new Stream meter display tuning discrepancy via speed and direction of LEDs
7-segment LED displays string and note names, easily visible on dark stages
Seven easy tuning modes include Chromatic, Guitar Regular, Guitar Flat, Guitar Double Flat, Bass Regular, Bass Flat, Bass Double Flat
Tuning mode setting and display style choice stored in memory
Speed of LED movement gets slower as pitch becomes more accurate)

Reliability No problems at all

Liked about it 1- Easy to see in a dark stage

2- Like all boss pedals it's built like a tank

Didn't like 1- Price

Unless you want a buffer, get a KORG PITCHBLACK.

Ease Of Use This Tuner is incredible easy to use, as is almost every other tuner! It tracks pretty well and is easy to see on stage.

Sound This is not true bypass! So, as said in the title, I would recommend a Pitchblack for you users that prefer no tone loss through BOSS buffer circuits! However, my friend uses this tuner and has had it for years. There isn't any nasty hum from it or anything.

Reliability As reliable as any BOSS pedal, it's built like a tank.

Customer Support Never dealt with BOSS

Liked about it Simple
Tracks quite well
Can be used as a buffer

Didn't like Possible tone 'sucking' due to buffered bypass
Doesn't track as well on very low/high notes on Bass/very high tuned instruments such as Mandolin.
Pricey compared to other (what I would regard as superior) tuners.

Does the job

Ease Of Use I don't think it gets much easier to use than this. An industry standard, for good reason. Have never had a problem and only change the battery about once a year. I don't usually use in-line just because I like the reliability of plugging a good guitar into a good amp with nothing in the middle.

Sound Doesn't seem to color the tone at all. By choosing which output jack you use you can either have it always outputting or cut off when tuning.

Reliability Mine has never failed me.

Customer Support Never had to deal with them. Which I count as a plus, the thing just works.

Liked about it Reliable, accurate enough, different modes to choose from, although I just keep it on the normal chromatic mode.

Didn't like Kinda spendy, but what are you gonna do? Any time I've paid less the tuner sucked.

A must have for any guitar player!! Ideal for playing live.

Ease Of Use Boss pedals are notorious for their quality products. The Tuner is basically a hand held chromatic tuner in pedal form. The pedal is stage friendly with its brightly colored lights, which makes it easy to tune on a dark stage. Its easy enough for anyone to use without resorting to an instructional manual.

Sound This pedal is a great addition for any pedal board. You can change the configuration on the pedal to display string names ie; EADGBE, or you can change it to correspond to the string numbers ie; 1,2,3,4,5,6. This is a very practical tuner at a very affordable price.

Reliability Reliable in every sense of the word. The metal casing can take a beating. The pedal holds up just fine despite being used heavily throughout the years. Never had any issues with it and I don't anticipate any to occur any time soon.

Customer Support Never had to deal with em'

Liked about it I liked the fact that the tuner has bright lights that really cut through on a dark stage. The construction is very straight forward and does not have any notable flaws. The rubber foot grip and rubber bottom is also beneficial when used on stage.

Didn't like What's there not to like? The pedal is a favorite amongst musicians world wide. This is the only tuner pedal i would consider using. Trustworthy, reliable and durable. That is what a Boss pedal is all about.
