Reasonably good for the price

Ease Of Use The Boss TU-80 Tuner/Metronome is fairly feature packed for it's cheap price. Having both a tuner and a metronome in the one unit is great, as it is a money saver, meaning you get two pieces of gear in the one unit. Beginners will like this as they wont have to fork out as much money for crucial learning tools.

Both functions of the TU-80 are quite easy to use. Essentially you turn it on, and select what function you wish to use.

The tuner function works as any typical chromatic tuner. You have your needle based display, and to get each string in tune you want the needle dead centre. It also has the usual cents markers, flat and sharp, and a display of what pitch you are tuning too (default of 440Hz).

The inbuilt microphone is a little weak. It's mostly fine for tuning acoustic guitars, but the TU-80 will have a hard time picking up a plucked string on many electrics. Thankfully the TU-80 does have input and output for cable connection.

One nice feature of the TU-80 is it's 'Accu-Pitch' feature. When the note is in tune both the flat and sharp lights turn on, and a beep is emitted to let you know the string is in tune.

Having this feature is a nice thing to have, but it's all sort of relative. The most important thing about a tuner is it's accuracy. It's all well and good to have a beep to let you know if the guitar is in tune, but is it really in tune?

For what it's worth, for the money, and the target user group (beginners) the TU-80 pretty much will get your guitar in reasonable tune. Beginners for the most part will fund their guitars sounding pretty good once it's been tuned up with the TU-80.

Put a guitar in front of a strobe tuner after using the TU-80, and you will notice notes will be slightly out. Not enough to affect most people, but you certainly wouldn't want to use the TU-80 for setting intonation.

But at the end of the day this guitar is targeted at the beginners market, and for it's small cost it's a pretty good tuner.

The metronome function is also fine. It has a great BPM range, starting at 30BPM, and clocks out at 250BPM. You can get your timing (e.g. 4/4, 3/4, etc), and to mark beats there is a higher pitched beat for the first of the bar, and a lower pitched one for the rest of the beats.

Sound Being a tuner/metronome there is no real sounds to evaluate. The beeps are nice!

Reliability The TU-80 is not really something I would gig with. It's primarily a practice tool. It's perfectly fine for this use though. Battery life is great too, I cannot remember the last time I recharged the 2 AA batteries used in this unit.

Customer Support I have not needed to deal with Boss.

Liked about it Tuner and metronome in one
* Accu-Pitch feature is cool
* Simple to use

Didn't like Tuning accuracy isn't the best, but will suit beginners just fine
* Would be handy if it had a little fold out stand built in so it could be stood up on a desk for practice.
