A great 'sleeper' drive pedal featured

Ease Of Use Like most overdrive pedals out there, the Guyatone HD 3 is very easy to use. You have 2 knobs, level and tone, and a 3 position switch that activates 3 different gain levels. It is best to start out with the lowest level of gain on the 3 position switch and then adjust from there; pretty simple if you ask me. Generally, you want to put your overdrive pedals early on in your effects chain as opposed to after a bunch of other effects or in the loop of your amp. It will probably take some experimentation and common sense to figure out where a drive pedal fits into your setup. The beauty of the Guyaton Micro series of pedals, is that they are so small! They can fit pretty much anywhere on your board and take up very little space. One thing that is kinda hard to deal with is the way the bottom plate is attached. Instead of screws, the bottom plate is held on the pedal with a black rubber gasket kinda thing. It is easy to remove, but relatively difficult to put back on. Other than that, this pedal is very well thought out and easy to operate

Sound My main rig is an Egnater Mod 50 head with the Bassman and SL2 modules through either a Mesa or Marshall 4x12 cab. My main guitars are a Gibson Les Paul and Fender Eric Johnson Strat. I play metal, jazz, and prog styles. Man, I feel like most nice overdrive pedals pretty much do the exact same thing and are usually not too different sounding in the end. Oddly enough, this pedal really does have a unique sound to it. First off, it is surprisingly amp-like. I think most drive pedals soundsand feel like a pedal, as opposed to an amp. In those cases, I would much rather just use the drive on my amp. But, the HD3 somehow does a nice job of sounding like an overdriven amp. The drive has a nice thickness and grind to it. It definitely isn't the Tube Screamer type of drive, but a nice thick one. In a way, it almost sounds too amp like, because there is a lot of hiss and noise on the hottest setting. That is a big issue for me, since I like a nice quiet rig. I prefer the lower gains of the 3 settings since they are a bit quieter, but honestly they all sound great. I am really impressed by this pedal and I never thought I would have been.

Reliability Aside from the case being small and not super strong, it looks pretty well made. No issues with it so far.

Customer Support I had a question about an LED in another one of their pedals and they responded in a very short time. Great customer service.

Liked about it Small

Didn't like Noisy on the hotter settings
