Not quite there yet... featured

Ease Of Use It is easy to get a basic sound out of this, however it is (as one would imagine) a lot more difficult to get the maximum out of this machine without a bit of homework. The instruction manual is sound. I did however find it difficult to come to terms with the settings required to fully maximize the potential in a recording environment and I'm still not convinced that I have achieved the best sound possible with the unit just yet.

Sound I have used the unit with a variety of guitars including a variety of RGs and Fenders Strats. The sound is good and when downloading the user defined presets it is handy to have the wide range of options available to you as this machine allows, however you can sometimes get lost in the detail and forget that you just wanted to play guitar.

Reliability The unit has performed soundly since purchase. I have downloaded all current and available patches from the LINE 6 Website. I have not gigged with this unit but I am sure if you wanted to travel light it would likely perform well.

Liked about it I like the concept of being able to record silently at night and get a reasonable sound that can help in song development.

I like the ability to upgrade and download preset tones

I like the idea that I can have a variety of amps in a single unit at a fraction of the cost.

Didn't like I don't like that fact that the idea that I can have a variety of amps in a single unit at a fraction of the cost is not quite there yet. This unit still has a ways to go yet and deep down as much as it kills me I don't think that we are quite there yet and the good old fashion tube amp is still the best way to get 'that sound'.

Good for direct recording featured

Ease Of Use All the knobs make editing sounds quite easy. And if you're used to the older style stand-alone POD 2.0 like I was, the display on the POD XT & XT-Pro is a nice upgrade. I found it easy to find my way around the menus, and the way the information is presented on the screen is useful. The Line6 software for a PC is what makes this unit really shine. I also bought the FBV Shortboard for the unit, giving several useful controls right on the floor.

Sound Using an Ibanez JEM7V and JS1200. I've piped the XT's AIR-II modeled sounds directly into my DAW (CuBase SX2) through my MOTU 24i audio interface. A lot of the preset sounds were "flashy", but none really struck me as anything spectacular. I'd spent a few days editing some of the preset sounds hoping I could come up with some that would be useful for some direct recording. I lot of the higher gain models sounded a bit fake & digital, but with a bit of tweaking I was able to create some nice sounds.

However, it is a good idea to obtain the additional model packs that are available from Line6's website; they really expand the XT's capability. There are some very pleasant clean & chorused tones you get right out of the box. But for higher gain tones, I felt the extra model packs were required to bring out the true potential.

The effects are very impressive. Definitely a step up from the original POD & POD Pro. What I *really* appreciate about this unit is its flexible routing. This is something the original POD didn't have the processing power to handle. And each effect allows quite a bit of useful tweaking. Overall I do like the sounds I'm able to create for direct recording.

It has been a good addition to my studio.

Reliability It seems well built. I likely wouldn't gig with this unit, however. Its mainly going to be for recording in the studio.

Liked about it 1. Easy user interface
2. Signal chain routing flexibility
3. Effects

Didn't like 1. Had to buy the model packs before I was truly happy with higher gain tones.
2. Floor board is too pricey.

Not Too Impressed

Ease Of Use It has it's ups and downs. Great analog controls but navigating the patches I didn't like very well.

Sound Great for someone trying to sound like someone else. Lacks allowing the user individuality in sound. Not sure how to describe it, but docked to a PC the sounds are good, but it's an illusion. That's as far as it gets. The design works for putting up tracks but in real world conditions I could not get a decent sound out of it for the life of me. Digital technology is great but in some cases the soul of the sound is lost and this is one. It has a lifeless sound about it and apparently a lot of people use it (judging only on popular music as of late).

Reliability Wouldn't bet the farm on it showing up to the game sounding great but it powers up ok.

Customer Support Never bothered

Liked about it Easy use of experimental tones when docked to PC

Didn't like Sterile Sound, no character or tonal individuality-turned me off to POD products shortly after purchase

Nice to record/Flat live

Ease Of Use Once I got familiar with how to program, the XT was easy to setup or modify sounds. I had the chance to use this unit to record and played a couple of live shows with it. I added a floorboard from Line 6 to switch channels, very easy to setup, and nice display on the floorboard, but the XT's display needs to be improved.

Sound When I used this unit to record, I was able to get some tones that truly cut through the mixes and some good gritty rythmn tones. I did find myself adding lots of effects to the clean tones to get more dreamy sounds. The clean tones felt flat without lots of chorus and reverb. I liked the live setup, I was able to go direct to the board, although I wish there was an output to use a monitor without having to use an amp. Even live I found myself adding more effects to beef up the tone, and I only used two different sounds live...clean and dirty. Whenever switching sounds, the volume would wander around, making spontaneous switching pointless.

Reliability Good and sturdy rack unit, very reliable, just make sure not to accidentally hit the wrong button onstage.

Liked about it I like how the unit sounds on tape.
I like the ease of programming.
I like having a ground controller for the unit.

Didn't like The unit really sounds flat in a live setting.
All the tones start sounding the same live, lacked dynamics, All Boss multieffects make the XT
sound like a cheap set of headphones.
Needs a better display.

GeeZ!!

Ease Of Use Nice Pre-Amp with knobs on! This is great unlike other units I have owned, the Pod XT pro is a joy to use. No need to push buttons up and down to get your sound.
The floor controller can also be used to control the main unit, which is a superb concept. Total control at your feet. One lead connects the floor controller to the Pod XT Pro supplying power and program changes.

Sound Sorry to dissapoint..............But this is where it counts.
The sounds are good. However, I would only describe them as a simulation of the amp that the Line 6 is trying to recreate. There is something synthetic about it that you just can't put your finger(s) on.
On a positive note. The Pod XT Pro is great DI straight into a desk.
Very convenient for recording.
Other amps I have owned and am compareing to include Mesa Boogie Tri-axis, Mark 3 & Studio pre-amp. Marshall JMP-1 and Plexi. ADA MP1. Roland Jazz Chorus and Fender Deluxe.
Close but no cigar.

Reliability It's well built, except for the plastic knobs for effects and patches.
I've had this unit for four months and it's working perfect.

Customer Support I haven't dealt with Line 6 other than visiting the Web Site.

Liked about it Great practice tool especially when you link it with Pod Live on the net.
Play and record a diverse range of music and this unit is useful.
It covers any style with incredible quality and tone.

Didn't like Like I said before the sounds are good. However, I would only describe them as a simulation of the amp that the Line 6 is trying to recreate.

Versatile recording and gigging unit!!

Ease Of Use I found that immersing yourself in the manual a very wise thing to do. The manual is clear and concise with helpful diagrams. It lets you know what is possible with the XT PRO. That said, the factory patches aren't bad at all, and tweaking said patches, isn't hard either. This is from a standard, non upgraded unit.

Sound Guitars i basically use all the time is an Ibanez Universe UV7BK green dot with factory pick ups, running it directly into Line6 XT Pro then M-Audio BX5a studio monitors.
Didn't find it noisy at all and was rather pleased with that! some effects are great and others not so, but everyone has personal choices on what they don't and do like.
Its great fun to play your favorite bands and actually sound like them. Master of Puppets, Satchboogie, Du Haust(Rammstein) all sounded great, as did the Eric Johnson patch!!!

Reliability Solid as a rock.....no back up needed, my unit is gigged constantly!!

Customer Support Havent need ed them as yet so I couldnt say if they're helpful or not!!!

Liked about it Versatile
Reliable
So many options!!!!!

Didn't like No stereo input
Screen needs to be bigger like the X3 model
Bass patches needed
