LOVE THIS!!!!! Neck or Bridge, it works beautifully!!! featured

Comments I took a gamble to test this out in an EBMM 22 fret Sillouette Special. Mind you, this was BEFORE Joe Satriani had this installed on his JS2400.

This was to me, DiMarzio's BEST kept secret. It is fat, defined, organic and compressed at the same time. It's not 100% PAF-like as DiMarzio would claim, but it is very very close.

In the neck, the tones are fat and creamy. Not as well defined as I would like it, but it does the job of giving your guitar a boost in the neck when paired with a high-output humbucker, without sounding sterile. It works great with volume and tone knob controls, and covers a lot of ground, be it, metal, rock, jazz or blues. in the neck position, it does everything one would expect from a neck pickup.

In the bridge, this is also something pretty amazing. It's fat (duh!), and very creamy. It is also very harmonically rich. It's not what you'd want compared to a Tonezone or Deactivator, but it does the job for hard rock very well here. It's also fat and creamy enough on clean, without all the highs you'd expect from a single-coil-ish pickup in the bridge. That's the one thing it's not: a single coil. It does sound like a humbucker, but a lot more defined and more highs than you'd expect.

What I really think works for this pickup, is the fact that it's single coil-sized. being of a smaller magnetic footprint, it cancells out less frequencies than a fullsized humbucker, so it retains a lot of bite and harmonics that you'd expect with a single coil. I suspect this is also very overwound with thinner wire, so it's hot and fat. It's like a humbucker/single coil tone hybrid. However, best results are when paired with 500k pots, and a .22 value cap.

This is in my go-to-guitar when I have no clue what to bring to a gig, or what to expect. There's nothing this guitar cannot do, except perhaps go head to head with an X2N and expect the same compression. The pickup tone is very open, and clear.

Liked about it Love the tone on full. Love it when paired with a lower output pup in the middle to give that "in-between" tone like a strat.

Didn't like I just wish the blades could come in different colour options.

Want PAF tone in a single-coil package? DiMarzio delivers again! featured

Comments One of the things that I like to attempt is when I have an H-S-H Ibanez, I try to replace the middle single-coil with something that's going to either produce a unique sound, or give me something that's going to make it like I have two differently-voiced bridge pickups. The Pro Track delivers on both of those points. Technically it's a humbucker in the form factor of a single-coil with the output around that of a PAF (275 mV). The EQ is about the same as a PAF, just slightly compensated/pushed on the bass and treble sides for the smaller form factor. Now, if I didn't tell you, you might not know that the attached sound clips have the Pro Track in the middle position of my RG4EXQM (BTW--this is the same guitar with the X2N bridge and Super 2 Neck). Clean, it's got the bright quality you'd expect from a bridge pickup, but as you move up the neck it stays smooth. Dirty, it bites and crunches like you would expect a PAF to do (if it were slid slightly forward). I think this would be an awesome bridge replacement for anyone who is looking to get a little more "Paul" out of their Strat. Again, I'm going to apologize for the quality of the sound clips on this pass--using Audacity on my laptop and trying out new picks at the same time.

Liked about it Excellent PAF-style tones.
Consistent tone all over the neck.
Brings Les Paul vibe to any strat.

Didn't like A little more mid-range than I usually like, but that's just personal taste.
