Dimarzio DP219 D-Activator Neck Pickup
|
The neck pickup that sounds active but is actually passive and installs just as easily.

Maybe the best non-active metal pickup for the neck position.

I liken this pickup to one of my all-time favorites, the Super II. The EQ curve is slid up in favor of the higher frequencies but still retains good low-end and tightness without the usual mud slop. Has more output than some bridge humbuckers which makes it great for metal soloing. Notes jump off the fret board and don't get lost in the frequencies of other instruments. All in all a great alternative to active pickups.

Active pickup without the extensive mods.
Nice glassy tones.
Strong output for the neck position.

I should have ordered it with black pole pieces--my mistake though...

A solid neck pickup for metal
| Comments |
While this is the neck version for the regular D-Activator bridge, I paired this pickup with a D-Activator X bridge on a S5470. Even though I have a 7-string version of the D-Activator set, the 6 string [neck] version does whats intended to do. Before getting this, I had a Paf Pro paired up with the D-X bridge and had a hard time "matching" the volume levels for both. I'm not found of the dual-blade dual humbucker look so I ordered a regular D-Activator neck.

Just like the D-Activator bridge, the neck pickup does not get muddy, especially on the lower notes. Voicing is pretty similar to a Paf Pro with far less "Aoooo" but much louder. Playing sweeps and/or fast single notes sound "single coil-ish", even glassy at times, despite the high output. Even though it does well for shredding/metal and what not, rolling off the volume produces an "almost" Strat-tone; almost in that it's pretty close to sounding like a hot single coil in the neck position.

Output is just as loud as most bridge humbuckers; definitely a powerful bridge pickup to match.
