Super Distortion performance for Telecaster players!
| Comments |
After seeing Mick Mars playing Telecasters and getting wicked sounds from them, and then seeing John 5 I began looking into how I could "hot-rod" a Telecaster. I'd always used the Air Norton T in the bridge of my Telecasters so I decided to try the Super Distortion T since I like the normal Super Distortion humbucker. I was not disappointed. With this pickup in the bridge and an Area T Neck your Telecaster can become a chameleon of metal and blues. Due to the pushed bass and mid EQ of the pickup you can actually play higher on the neck without the sound becoming too shrill. With any overdrive or distortion your Telecaster is transformed into a metal machine. My friend had to do a double-take when I kicked in the juice--he couldn't believe that tone was coming out of a Squier Telecaster!! Dimarzio even notes that they adjusted the EQ to accommodate the slanted install position of the Telecaster bridge pickup.
Update: My previous comments chronicle how this pickup can turn your Tele into a hot-rod axe. In messing around with some tones in Line6 POD Farm, I found that using this pickup with a SLIGHTLY overdriven tone produces some of the nicest crunch tones I've ever heard. Don't believe me, try using this pickup in a Tele (obviously), then in POD Farm use the Jump Plexi model with all the controls dimed, and the Screamer pedal with everything at 12 o'clock. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised--a HIGHLY usable crunch tone.

Turns a Telecaster into a rock/metal machine.
EQ curve rolls off the treble so you can stay on the bridge pickup higher on the neck.
Adds versatility to a Telecaster.
