Good quality passive pickup, but not identical to

I've always thought EMG passive pickups don't get the credit they deserve because people expect too much of them. They are passive and weaker than actives, but with the right combinations of wood types on a guitar they can have more bite. With the H3 model, I have both the bridge and neck as stock pickups from a Jackson. The guitar has an alder body and a rosewood fretboard, and these pickups sounded too mid scooped and dull to my ears. I recently decided to place both humbuckers in a custom guitar with a basswood body and ebony fretboard. I get more of an attack from the pickups due to the different tone woods. So, no the EMG H3s are not active EMGs though they are tonally similar they are definitely weaker. I recommend using them with brighter tone woods rather than say mahogany.

-Coil splittable for better clean tones if you wire it that way
-Quality, these are made in the USA just like the actives
-Very quiet

| Didn't like |
-Cost nearly as much as active EMG pickups
-Mainly a rock/metal pickup, not the most versatile
-The full humbucker clean tones, it handles distortion much better
