Great pickup - different feel
Comments
I first discovered the Lace pickups when I went to a John Jorgenson clinic in New Orleans. This was before he started playing with Sir Elton. I was floored with the sound from his Strat as I had been a Strat player since the mid 1970s. His guitar wasn't buzzing under the lights either and that got my attention. I had a chance to talk with him and he lined me out on the Lace pickups.

Liked about it
What I really like about this pickup is many fold. First the fact that it's very quiet in adverse conditions. It doesn't pick up RF much at all so to compare it to a standard Strat pickup it's dead quiet. The next thing I liked was the look. No pole pieces gave the guitar a streamlined fast look and there wasn't tiny bits of metal clinging to the top of the pickup like you'd find with standard pole piece pickups. Probably the most interesting thing is the feel of the pickup. There is noticeably less string pull from the pickup. What that translates to is better string response and sustain. There is less magnetic field pulling on the strings thereby dampening them soon. The strings vibrate more freely and longer.

Didn't like
It's not that I don't like that sound it's just that it's different than traditional. Its great and awesome tones are had often but the high end shimmer associated with vintage type pickups isn't present with the Lace Gold. It has it's own sound and it's very good and versatile. I found the best pot value to be 500K ohm. It made the pickup come alive.
