Awesome aid to learn songs

Comments I have used Guitar Pro since version 3, and have always spoke highly of it. I use it primarily as a tool to learn new tracks with. Having grown up on those ugly hard to read text file tablature files, this program is truly a breath of fresh air. I also like the availability of the songs, as it is a popular program. Even though each file is 'user created' there are some really accurate ones around. With a google search for "song title gp4" a person can find any track within seconds (I still believe gp4 for Guitar Pro 4 is the most common file type, although I will search with gp5 or gp6 soon). Not only does it have the tablature for the guitar (with options to show keyboard, fretboard, standard music notation), it also has it for bass and drums too. Truly an awesome program. It also has the ability to slow down the track, while keeping the pitch the same, so you can play along at a comfortable speed. With the introduction of the RSE (Realistic Sound Engine), the instruments sound a whole lot better. I have known people who use this program for its other features to compose music too. Looking forward to getting around to using version 6, however I am familiar with this version so have no motive to move on currently.

Liked about it -easy to find tablature files to use with it.
-great features to slow down tracks to play along
-shows tablature for all instruments in the one file

Didn't like -to be honest, I can't think of anything to add here. I don't like giving things 5 stars, especially software, however for its purpose this is an excellent program.

Great for the Studio and Band Practice

Comments This program is useful for preparing to go into the studio. You have many timbres to choose from to create your own backing tracks. You have the loop station which allows you to slow a section down and speed it up, so you can play it more accurately. You can mute or isolate any tracks you choose and you have a number of editing options to make the tracks much more precise.

I use this program to prepare for any studio sessions I have coming up. If I have band mates that need to learn a song quickly, I can export MIDI or WAV tracks and give them sheet music in standard notion, tabs, or both depending on what works best for them. I have used it for vocal practice and guitar practice. I also compose classical music with the help of the keyboard or fretboard view which allows me to plug in the notes more easily.

Liked about it +The ability to write mulitple layers in over 100 different timbres
+The loop station makes learning songs easier
+The import and export feature allows one to share music with other musicians and change (ex. Powertabs) into a more usable form

Didn't like +The fake MIDI sound- The "Realistic Sound Engine" remedies this a little bit
+Some of the MUSICAL DIRECTION options (Segno, Cota, etc.) are incomplete and this needs improvement
+It would be better if it was possible to change cleffs, even down to specific passages in a song

Great practicing software for the price.

Comments I have been using this for a while now. I love this software. It has the ability for you to plug in your tab and it also puts in the sheet music (for those that don't read tab) as you tab it out. I always use this when I'm writing. I will tab out a part and then use this software to either slow it down or speed it up and loop while I write to that part.

Liked about it When I tab something out, I can always use this program to emulate many different instruments. I can change the BPM on the fly if I need to slow something down to practice it at a more manageable pace and then have it loop and speed up each time it starts the loop. The guitars, basses, and drums sound amazing with the use of Real Sound Engine (RSE).

Didn't like I didn't like using the "Cut" feature due to the fact of it having to cut from every instrument while multi-tracking. Some of the instruments that channeled through MIDI didn't sound very unique and could have been left out. I would like to see a better sound engine for a lot of the other instruments and synth pads.

Need tabs? Get this!

Comments Ive used guitar pro for years now and its the only think i use for learning new songs, or inputting my band song into it! I love how its so easy to use, never had any problems with it, ie crashing my computer or something like that! I love the fact you can alter the tempo of a song so you can play along slow if you want to master the tricky solo's! I also love the fact you can still open such files like Gp.4 and older versions. It also has the ability to put all of the tab you input onto a stave and create the real music for those people who don't use tab.
Not only have i used this for guitar but i have also used it for drums and bass a lot before and those are just a simple to follow!

Liked about it Slow down the tab
Open older files on it still
Not just for guitar!

Didn't like I think the only thing i didnt like was the unrealistic midi sound it produces, but thats not a major problem!
