EDIT Title: Upgrade guitar parts.... your opinions please !!! << Silly "t" instead of "d" :p

Hello everyone !

Well, I am thinking of upgrading some parts of my RG370DX.. I know anyone will tell me to get another one, but IMHO, I guess that I can make this guitar alive with some changes

First of all.. I decided to change both Neck and Bridge pickups plus the Tremolo as well.

So, I've finally decided on Dimarzio D-Activator X in the bridge as I need the closest passive pickup to EMG sound. I liked the X2N too, but I found that it is somehow more treble than the D-Activator X.

For the neck pup, I am confused a bit. Some people told me to get the D-Activator X (neck version) to match the bridge as a set. While others told me that the D-Activator (The pole pieces version) will be better. The problem that I can't get my hand on a guitar that has D-Activator X installed in it. I liked the D-Activator very much, but I can't compare it to D-Activator X due to lack of the knowledge of how it sounds.
So can you share your opinions and experiences about both of them ?

For the Tremolo, I liked the EDGE 3 Tremolo. It wasn't that bad of how people were describing it. It just need a good setup. It wasn't getting out of tune too. I am using it for 2 years without any wear outs. But it lacked the nice tremolo effect; the fluttering. The best one I found in flutter effect is the Floyd Rose. Fortunately, it seems that it fits in the EDGE III cavity, but how it operates ? Does it work like it was installed by the manufacturer or I will face some problems. - It will be installed by a technician -
Or it just fits but doesn't work at all.. I am talking about the OFR kit, not the licensed FR.

Thank you guys. :)

So far, I have played a few of the emenince speakers but when i played the Warehouse Guitar speakers they seemed to be more clear and present with their tone..

So there are 3 WGS speakers i like the tone of..

12” HM75 (75w RMS)
12” ET65 (65w RMS)
12” Reaper HP (50w RMS)

My amp is 40w of tube head, this speaker is going into a 1x12 closed back cab..I will mostly be playing heavy metal, death metal and melodic metal.

Like-
Godsmack
drowningpool
deathklok
Slipknot
etc etc........

I really like all three but I have only played the HM75 and it kills, but the cleans of the Reaper and ET65 sound sweet on the WGS site..

Any experience with these??

Hello. I just picked up a MIJ 1994 RG550 Blk. Glad I found this site. Had an Ibanez RG back in 90. I picked up one of the AR200 artist a few years back upgraded the pickups to a duncan jazz neck and a Jb in the bridge. Amazing what good pickups can do for the right cut of wood. I love it. Wanted a total shredder so I researched and found this very cheaply priced jewel on line. I am excited. The neck is like new and outside of a few minor dings this guitar loks like it did a lot of case time. No buckle rash either. I do have issues though.

-The Hums are moving up and down on the screws. They dont come off just move up and down.

- The tremolo angle adjustment screws seem to be at an obscenley uneven depth of inserstion to get the angle right ( maybe?)

- Neck looks straight but messed with the trem slightly last night to get rid of the slight buzzing on the low E and A strings.

-The guitar's body is in such good shape that the few tiny dings actually bug me. I'ts black so I'm hoping to post to find someone hear that can provide info on making them disappear as best as possible.

- Been spending some time looking into pickups and I'm thinking I would like air norton neck-area 61 middle-evo 2 bridge. Still much research to do with compatability with each other and tone. I do want to move fast with this though as I'm seething at the bit here.

These things I will probably address in individual posts. But I guess if it's not frowned upon please feel free to comment on this thread or let me know that members like individual threads. I think after 25 years I may finally be an Ibanez guy after all. I LOVE the feel and playability. I think the RG will compliment the mahogoney set neck artist very well and provide a completley different look, feel and tone in the end which is what I was aiming for. Kinda cool to get that with one maker. I am contemplating buying the pickups and having a pro set it up as I have no experience tinkering with floaters and want to shred this guitar so bad quickly.

This is a cool chromatic line I've come up with doing a guest appearance on one of the songs of the upcoming 3rd OSV album. Click here to download the bigger version of the tablature and the mp3:

http://www.4shared.com/file/15578047...c_passage.html

As you can see and hear, the solo is in the key of E minor, and it starts with two unison bends in the first bar, and a simple bend-and-release pattern in the second bar. Notice, how these two bars are rhythmically connected by the solo guitar, using different notes and techniques but the same rhythm.

At the end of the second bar I start the chromatic line. I took the 5 notes of the E minor pentatonic scale as reference points and did some chromatic 'journeys' around them. In the fourth bar you have to shift positions twice, so I wrote the fingering below these two points.

When using chromatic lines, it is important to end the passage on one of the main notes of the key - this time I've landed simply on the root (D string 14th fret).

I recently bought an RG1570L, and theres many things that I like about this guitar.

But I have a problem getting the actions as low as I have it on my GRG170L. The reason for this is that it seems that the radius on the bridge matches quite well with the radius on the fretboard, which in theory means that you can get the same low action on all six stringes.

That is if you never ever try to bend the strings!

It seems that to avoid choking the high E string when bending, I end up with far to high action for the middle string.

This doesnt happen on my GRG170, where the radius on the bridge seems to be larger (flatter) that the fretboard.

Does anyone experience similar problems, and is there a simple solution?

:?: A fantastic player I know has a very expensive hand made one off classical and his suggestion to me with my $1,000.00 Classical (POS compared to his) is to leave it in the bathroom when showering as the steam keeps it humidified. He says he's been doing this for over 20 years and has never had a problem with his guitar. Has anyone else heard of this? Right now I'm just using the humidifier case component with the little sponges. For the last week I have kept it in the spare bathroom where my son and I take our showers (separately of course!). But is this too much humidity for the guitar or what? I have no reason to doubt the guy, as I have known him since we were kids, and he has attended San Francisco Conservatory, as well as other prestigious schools. His playing ability is phenomenal, though I am a little curious if anyone has ever heard of this? :?:

Thanks for any feedback...

I'm looking for a stock 1987 White RG550. The neck has to be clean and straight. Body can be beat to hell and dinged/dented/chipped. An OHSC would be nice but not mandatory. Original wiring and pickups please. I live in Hong Kong but I fly back to the States once per year and I need a guitar to practice when I am visiting the parents. Shipment will be to Chicago. Its going to sit in its case 51 weeks/year but it will eventually join my small four-guitar army. Thanks, Rich.

It was a night of progressive metal madness, and the PGM served me well...I ran my 5150 through an Orange 4x12 that night. Still pretty brutal sounding - definitely on par with my usual PRS/Mesa combination.

I had this guitar up for sale a long time ago but decided not to sell it. This started as a stock black Jem555. I had it stripped down and painted eggshell flat black with matching headstock. The headstock had a chrome decal with the "JEM" logo. The guitar comes with the string tree, locking nuts, tools etc.. all shown in pics. The guitar has no guts right now being sold as is. I have the original Evo's from this guitar but they are in rough shape but will include them if requested. Guitar is in mint condition, no dents, no dings or scratches. The guitar practically looks new just needs to be finished. Would make a killer shred/metal guitar. Another thing.. on the back of the headstock it is stamped with a "S", came like that from factory, I duno what it means. Maybe someone can fill me in. Guitar comes shipped inside a brand new M100 ibanez hadshell case. PM or email any ?'s to damienthorn13@hotmail.com $300 Shipped.

Anyway, if you haven't heard it, imagine some of the more commercial moments of Ocean Machine, Physicist and Accelerated Evolution, but with more groove and very flashy production.

Oh and if you've never listened to Devin apart from the album he did with Steve Vai, whoooooooooa boy you have a lot of catching up to do. Here's a post by Devin himself on metalsucks.com where Devin personally picks out a bunch of YouTube videos to give a bit of an overview of his work. If you don't like one, give another a try because he's done a lot of very different stuff and some of it is quite shreddy, some is rather proggy, some is all-out metal, and he's even done some ambient new age instrumental albums.

1995 Ibanez S470FMTT - Flamed Maple Top, Transparent Turquoise

FOR SALE ONLY: This is a near-mint Korean-made 1995 Ibanez S470 (please no trades). The color is called "Transparent Turquoise" but it appears to be more green than turquoise in person. Regardless, it has a beautiful finish and the character of the tiger stripe maple is difficult to capture in the pictures, it's much more striking in person. This guitar is extremely reliable, very stable, the Lo-TRS II is in excellent operational condition, the neck is smooth, thin and fast, and it looks as good as it plays. Very well-kept, I'm the second owner.

Asking: $315 + shipping/insurance (TBD based on buyer location)
Guitar location: Orlando, FL

Includes Ibanez gig bag. Gig bag shows wear on Ibanez logo but is otherwise in perfect order. Thick padding, single front pouch for storage with working zipper, briefcase-style handle and adjustable backpack strap (see first pic).

Mahogany body (Flamed Maple Top), Wizard II, 22-fret, comfortable low action

Abalone oval inlays

Features upgraded bridge pickup. Seymour Duncan high-output, I'm not sure which model SD as it was in the guitar when I purchased it. This hotter pickup is very versatile and does excellently in this instrument. The neck (AH1) and middle (AS1) pickups are the original-equipped Ibanez. Volume/tone pot, 5-way selector switch work perfectly.

No cracks whatsoever. The neck heel and locking nut allens are not cracked in any way (see pics).

Gold hardware is near-mint. The tuning keys, volume/tone knobs, tremolo bar, and pickup rings have normal playing wear but it is minimal. The Lo-TRS II is in perfect shape with no pitting or damage to the finish whatsoever.

Two minor blemishes, shown in the last two pictures. One is a small crease that appears to be under the clear coat as it can't be felt if you run your finger over it. On the rear of the guitar there are three (3) small chips out of the clear coat just below the open cavity cover but the paint/color is not damaged. The headstock has some wear apparent on Ibanez headstock logo.

Found this thing on Craigslist here locally. They wanted 100 dollars but it had no output so I got it for 80 dollars. 76 model has super 70's pickups & schaller tuners(added by somebody). Took it home and took it apart, cleaned the pots and switches and viola sound!!!! Did a pretty thorough cleaning and added some new knobs and switch plate and for a grand total of 94.00 I have a pretty nice looking and playing guitar. I don't have a Les Paul to compare it against so I don't know the difference but it sounds pretty darn good. Especially through a clean channel. Plays nicely and it looks cool on the wall if nothing else.

Anyway the first 3 photos are before and the last 4 are after some cleaning.

Hi guys, just testing the waters here. I have a Jem 777 VDY I am contemplating selling. I am the original owner, it was given to me as a gift from my parents in 1989 when I started playing in bands. It has been my main guitar for 15 years, recording various albums and sessions (Dreamcast, Sega, Playstation) and so is not in collectable mint condition.
However it is in great playing shape, having just been set up and refretted. It has various dings collected over the 15 years of gigging, but everything is original. The trem is worn where your palm rests, but still functions perfectly.
This is a killer guitar and with the Wizard neck is lightning fast. Incidently I've never found an easier guitar to play funk on!

I have a lot of sentimental baggage with this guitar as it was a gift and my #1. I honestly will probably cry if I sell it.
But I am building a house and need every cent I can get.
I'm thinking it may not be worth my while as I'm in Australia and with the weak US dollar may not make it worthwhile. (And I kinda want to hang on to it...)

But I thought I'd throw the idea out there, if there is any interest I'll organise some photos etc.
No idea on price, Maybe $1400.US/$1550AU
Cheers
Because I cannot find any Ibanez RG 7 or 8 strings with upside down headstock, nor specific finishes like various camos and natural satin finishes, different colored bindings, lightning Inlays or the ibanez shark style inlays, and of course the very elegant Kahler locking systems (but with a Floyd Locking Nut),...

if good luthiers who make replicas right to spec exist, does any one know if whether these replicas are legal for me to play in my band?

I found 2 companies in poland but how do i know if they are high quality.

Thanks

Hello! I have a few items that I'm selling to fund the purchace of a Parker Fly Mojo guitar.
Pictures are avaliable on request....

1) Parker Nitefly M - I brought this guitar 2nd hand 3 years ago from a chap who didn't play it very much. I have gigged it a few times and it has a few 'dings' and marks, however, the instrument is solid. It has an awesome tone, feel, the build construction is excellent and everything works just as it should. I'm looking to get 525 pounds for this guitar.

2) Yamaha RBX 374 bass guitar in red. This is a solid bass guitar, although its been used its in good condition and is an excellent bass for someone who wants a back up or perhaps an upgrade. I want 90 pounds for this bass.

3) Yamaha Pacifica 311MS. This guitar is in excellent condition and is fairly rare. Its a blonde 'super tele'. Maple neck and finger board, Ash (I think!) body and in excellent overal cosmetic condition. This guitar has a Gibson 57 PAF installed in the neck position and I have changed the string tree to a graphite one. I want to get 230 for this guitar.

I based in Exeter, in Devon. You can contact me through here, or e mail me on c.elphick@ex.ac.uk. The cab can't really be shipped, but I'm sure we can figure something out for the other items. I will not be using paypal for these transactions as my account is having some problems at the moment. But I can provide e bay references if needed.

Only lately I've noticed this (I have a relaxed brain) and should I buy lemon juice to clean the frets or just wipe 'em down like I always did?

I am a bit late announcing the prize for the November Reviewer Of The Month (ROTM) contest - But better late than never. :)

Selection of the ROTM will be based on two main criteria:

Quality and detail of reviews submitted throughout the month

Those that continually submit high quality/detailed reviews will be in the running for winnin ROTM! A high quality/detailed review goes deeper than single sentence comments within your review.

Quantity of reviews

Obviously the more reviews in a month the better your chances of winning ROTM.

Quality vs Quantity:

Keep in mind that doing 50 reviews with little substance will NOT get you ROTM. Keep them coming but make sure they are the quality reviews we typically see.

Time frame:

ROTM will be announced on the 10th of each month for the previous month and will be based on the reviews submitted within the past month.

PRIZE: November's ROTM contest is once again sponsored by Ernie Ball. Big thanks to Brian and the whole team at EB for supporting this initiative!! November's ROTM will win two boxes of the Ernie Ball Strings used by Steve Vai - One for Electric and the second for Acoustic guitar.

I'm also selling my Mesa Boogie F-50. Never gigged and still has the warranty tag on it. There are a couple of white paint scuffs from moving it around my apartment but I can probably get those cleaned up. Includes foot-switch. Asking $600.00 plus shipping, which I'm guessing will be between $60.00 and $90.00.

This is a post from another forum but it could apply to all of us one day so it's worth the read.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Imagine my horror when my wife called me to say that the guitar had arrived from FedEx Ground, and she asked.....why it did not come in a box !!

Yes, I did a trade with a guy (Andrew Emmel) and after careful preparation (lots of picture trading, many emails, talking on phone, etc) ..... I never thought to ask him if he would be putting this in a BOX for shipment. Some things I guess you just cannot assume. I was speechless, I mean who would send a $1500 guitar out to the FedEx gorilla gang with no protection other than the nice Gibson USA (mint condition when it started) hardshell case. This great case, which my traded decided to use as the shipping box....without telling me.....is part of the value of the trade. I don't even ship pedals in their boxes, I always double box them....to protect the value. And this guy sends a CASE out into the great unknown. Did I mention I was floored. Oh and by the way, this is a guitar that is well known for broken necks too right? Not even any internal padding to be sure it did not move around inside.
Just packing tape all around the outside to be sure and leave sticky un-removable residue all over the case....just to provide a continuous reminder of my bonehead shipper trading pal. Oh the horror. I was on a trip at the time so I got to wait 4 days until I got to see it with my own eyes.

So here is the "shipping box":

I can only assume that the owner wanted to start the relic'ing process of the case for me while it was in transit to me.

The good news is that it was not destroyed, the case had lots of new wear and tear courtesy of FedEx handlers and some pretty good crunches (in places that you wonder how they did it). But no broken neck. This must be a testament to the form/fit of this Gibson case as it did it's job well.

There is a darker side of the story (what was described as "deglossing of the back of neck by his guitar tech" seemed to be much more "hand some course sandpaper to your 6 year old and let them have it". It is brutal and unplayable neck that needs professional attention. I have an estimate for $150 to repair that surprise.....but that is another story for another thread.

Lesson learned #142:
Always confirm that seller/trader plans to put your item in a box and properly pack it.

Lesson learned #143:
Ones persons "deglossing to match the feel of his Taylor 314ce neck" is another persons "scraped with sawblade"

Lesson learned #144:
When you think that 10 pictures have told the entire story....ask for some more.

Lesson learned #145:
Even though you would always want to make a trade deal right in order to be fair and protect your reputation, don't assume others will do the same.

That is all for now. By the way I am not seeking any "oh that sucks.....I live near him and could pay him a visit" 30 page thread here. I just had to share my first bad trading experience in a long time....and vent a bit. I did not even encounter him here on TGP, but I know you guys would understand my horror. I now forgive him and wish him the best and hope that he enjoyed getting the better end of this trade deal.

The guy who traded me is: Andrew Emmel (username is: andrewemmel on Acoustic Guitar Forum and Ultimate Guitar forum). I don't see him on TGP, but wanted you guys to know so if you do deal with him....you can exercise GREAT caution. To be fair, he did not totally rip me off as he sent the guitar in trade, but his packaging was NON-EXISTENT which diminished the value of the case and the neck sanding destroyed the value that I attached to the guitar and he did NOTHING to try and reach happy compromise on making right on things.

Have any of you guys used both types before?

Did switching from one type to the other make a lot of difference in the playability of your guitar?

Which did you prefer?

Are there any advantages to using say the 6150 over the 6105?

It is an Ibanez SA160QM, everything is stock except the guitar has a Dimarzio Tonezone in the bridge, Fender USA singlecoil in the middle and Dimarzio YJM in the neck. Also has pearl knobs. The neck pocket still fits, and everything works, theres just a slight gap in the top part of the pocket. I have filled it with wood filler, so now it works as it should, but looks somewhat ugly close up, from a distance it is barely noticable. Either way, This guitar is being sold AS IS.

I am looking for $175 US, or like $125 US without the pickups (both AFTER paypal fees). Give me an offer, Im also looking for a Carvin neck (guitar or bass), a White pearl H-S-S or H-x-S pickguard.. um I think thats it for parts. a Carvin bass in general would be great.

After about a million years of reading about NAMM from afar (usually about 5 months later, in the pre-internet days by the time the US guitar magazines arrived here) I decided it's time I went there myself. After all, I'm now writing for 3 different guitar mags as well as my site www.iheartguitarblog.com and I really should be there to provide on-the-ground coverage and meet up with all the cool contacts I've made in recent times. So I'm packing up the family and making the long (actually only 12 hours - not too shabby!) flight from Australia to California.

Who else is going to NAMM? It'd be cool to finally put faces to the names!

I've got so much to do while I'm there! I've applied for a guitar lesson with Paul Gilbert, Premier Guitar mag has mentioned the possibility of me guest-hosting a couple of videos for their site, and I'm hoping to catch a Mike Keneally gig if he's playing at NAMM this year (seems I'm always hearing about these killer Keneally sets and I always miss them). What else should I do, as a first-time NAMMer?

Hello all. This is probably the wrong forum, but here goes...

I bought this body and neck on **** a couple of years ago as a project, but I never got around to completing it. To be honest, I don't know if these are aftermarket parts, or a converted Ibanez RG. As you can see this is a basswood body finished in Loch Ness Green, accompanied by a nice maple neck with a Loch Ness Green headstock. The body has the "All Access Neck Joint", which is really comfortable. The neck has the cool "disappearing pyramid" inlays. I thought the neck would be super-thin and super-flat, but it seems nice and comfortable...sort of like an American Standard Strat. This auction includes the body, neck, neck screws and ferrules, locking nut, and a set of tuners that are supposed to be from a Jem. (I do want to point out that the tuners have two alignment points sticking up, while the back of the headstock is only drilled for one. I'm not sure which is "correct".)

All you need to complete a KILLER Jem is the pickguard, tremolo, and electronics. I've seen Loch Ness Green Jems sell for over $2000 on ****, so here's a chance for you to save HUNDREDS, if not THOUSANDS of dollars. I'm asking $350, plus shipping and Paypal. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,
