Isn't it time for a visual update for jemsite?
Jemsite has given a means for Jem, Universe, and Ibanez owners among others a chance to hold discussions in a happy fashion and we all love it dearly... but isn't it time for an update to the site? The site has not changed since I started lurking around here in 2004. I think the solution is new
forum software
...
Vbulletin is severley outdated. It looked okay in 2001... but now it's just cluttered and disgusting looking. But fear not, I've done some research and found two great, up to date forum softwares.
First one is Xenforo.
http://xenforo.com/
It's clean and nice looking, has a lot of great features, is fast, and is up to date. A notable forum that uses this software is SRK forums, which can be found here:
http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php
The second is IP.Board. It's got a lot of the same features and niceness as Xenforo:
http://www.invisionpower.com/apps/board/
A notable forum that uses this software is Nexus Mods forums, which can be found here:
http://forums.nexusmods.com/
Of course all visual colors can be changed. A very nice point is that both these softwares are CHEAPER than vbulletin.
So what do you say? Let's bring jemsite out of early 2001 and into 2012 visually!

Bring it back to the 90's, I'd say!

I'd be happy if I could get my reviewers badge that I've been waiting for a long time...and if the search function worked In the reviews section...

This x 1000%
I would also like it if they added support for Forum Runner on mobile devices.

Embedding videos would be nice along with the ability to simply 'like' someones post without having to write something mundane like 'cool' all the time.

Re: Isn't it time for a visual update for jemsite?
With the shift in technology over the last couple of years, Tapatalk and mobile support would be nice. Almost all my reading takes place on a tablet or phone, and pretty much every other forum I frequent can be accessed via Tapatalk. It's a simple upgrade for vBulletin too.
EDIT: That said, I like Jemsite the way it currently is on my computer... simple UI, great content, no nonsense.

Re: Isn't it time for a visual update for jemsite?
Hi guys, Thanks for the feedback keep it coming as the site owners will reference it for sure. As an FYI jemsite had always prioritized being a useful & friendly place to go... substance over style (ironic given the site is dedicated to a JEM).
That said i in talking to the site admin/owners I will relay that the vBulletin forum is being prepared to be updated to the latest version. This is a
major undertaking
since the vBulletin base system is so heavily modified. This will allow more addons/fixes in a timely manner. I've personally requested Tapatalk support which is useful on slow/3G connections or very small screens (i.e. iPhones and old smartphones). Our software vBulletin level does not support Tapatalk so hopefully once it's updated it can be an option. Thanks... glen

Re: Isn't it time for a visual update for jemsite?
Hey thanks for listening to us and giving us that update. It's cool you are moving towards good things.
My opinion:
I think you guys should just drop vbulletin because it is extremely out dated in terms of style and performance. The two forum softwares I mentioned are not only much nicer looking but much faster than vbulletin.

Re: Isn't it time for a visual update for jemsite?
hopefully after the upgrade it still feels the same!
This was the first forum I ever visited when I got on the "internet" in 1993/94, and the first place I joined. I kinda like how it still looks and feels almost the same as back then.
