Re: My dad was told he has one year to live in which he will starve to death :-(
So sorry to hear about this. The coming days will no doubt be full of challenges and changes. I can only hope that amidst the darkness of frustration, anxiety and sadness you all can be blessed with some shining moments of comfort and joy. You and your family are in my thoughts and on my prayer list.

I really hate to hear this Glen, but lets hope for a miracle. A good friend of mine at my church in 1997 had cancer all over his body, Dr's said theres nothing they could do and gave him 5 months to live.....one day he went to the Dr, they did a test, and somehow it was miraculously all gone....they had no explanation, he's still here nearly 10 years later and doing pretty ood considering all he's been through. Never ever lose hope, Dr's don't know everything, their wrong sometimes and miracles can happen. I'll keep u in my prayers.

Re: My dad was told he has one year to live in which he will starve to death :-(
Hi Glen. I´m a new member but after i read this i had to post.
I´m only 16 years old although my father has passed away last march 26th..
We were on the living room, and my father went jogging. He had a blood tension or hypertension "don´t know which one of these is correct in english" and the jogging made his heart beat too fast. He collapsed in the living room with a fatal heart attack. I guess the expression "Dropped dead" fits, that was very much what happened. I was very close to my dad, he really suported my idea of wanting to become a professional musician and suported me financially and lovingly. One day he was here and the next he wasn´t anymore. I didn´t get to say goodbye, or spend time with him if he had any serious diseases. The only thing i regret is not spending more time with my father due to selfishness playing video games and not wanting to go visit the museum with him and my mom. Or go out and do activities together. It´s something il regret until i die and meet him wherever we may go after we leave this world and ask him to forgive me for that.
My only advice for you Glen is that you spend as much time with your father as you can. You know that in his fragile state he may pass away at any moment. So spend as many times with him as you can, look at old photo albuns with him and well... hope that he lives more than expected.
So that you won´t have to live your life with the thought on the back of your mind "I could have...."
Sorry for the long post. And be strong!

I've sat here for ages and typed, then deleted and retyped countless times.
I don't know what to say Glen. Tell your father we're thinking about him and tell him we all think that his son has done a very important thing for lovers of noise accross the world.
Best regards,
Ben

With this type of cancer and where it's located in the stomach there is basically no routine treatment options :-(
It's a cruel twist of fate that he should suffer like this after leading a healthy lifestyle and pretty much dedicating his life to helping and healing others... often at the expense of himself & family. I get to see somewhat regularly people whose lives he has touched and helped over the years... some before i was born. At work I will get the "say hello to your dad, how is he doing?... to which i will no doubt shed many a tear and then see pure sadness on their faces. During these heart-felt moments i can't help but to think that his youngest grandchild will probalby have no recollection of him and her older sister perhaps fleeting memories
Growing up as a kid and even as an adult, he considered any music i listened to or played to be "noise" -- how the heck can "Rain Song" be "noise" is beyond me LOL -- but visitors of this site for what is now almost a decade have felt his influence in the sense of pride and passion he took in everything he does. 10 tubes stuck everywhere in his body in the hospital and he's asking about this and that little thing which needs to get done. That has trickled down to me and hopefully the site here. It's something that even starvation can never dissipate and surely something i hope i can instill in my two little ones.
I wished not to have to post anything of this matter except for the fact it will seriously effect my time in real life and online here for a while. Aside from the personal matters and such which i prefer to remain private, we are jointly involved in two businesess... one of which he's essentially retired and hands off but the other of which is a small software company in which he basically runs the day-to-day operations and alot of phone calls and is the acting CEO. Many of those responsibilities are going to be mine to handle for the immediate future.
So if you email or PM without a reply, or with long delay please understand this is mostly why.
I would ask anyone reading would consider taking a moment to reflect upon your parents, siblings and loved ones and let them know just how important they are... glen
Glen, I'm so sorry to hear this. Jemmer was telling me you had some family issues but he didn't go into any detail. I told him I am hoping it's nothing serious, but damn bro, I feel for you. I happen to know exactly what you are going through because a few months ago my father was diagnosed with bowel cancer, and unfortunately he had been ignoring it for a long time. He knew something was wrong, but it was still a shock to him when he found out. He is also an otherwise healthy person, doesn't smoke, works out, eats well, etc., in fact up until a few years ago he was a great cyclist who has won lots of trophies through beating guys on the road a third of his age!
He has since been operated on and for now it's looking OK, but to be honest none of us expected things to work out for him. It still looks a little bit rocky, but we have to keep a positive attitude for him. Talking to your dad about his will and listening to him plan out his funeral is harsh, and it really got to me a while back, I was very stressed. To top it all off, we recently fell out over something very trivial and I haven't seen him for many weeks, but I put it down to the stress he's going through and I can't let it affect the way I feel.
The mods will hold the fort for you here, so just put your dad first and concentrate on being around for him. You are an intelligent guy and you don't need people like me telling you this, but don't worry about Jemsite, it's in good hands with the great moderators we have.
All the best to you and your family.

Re: My dad was told he has one year to live in which he will starve to death :-(
I'm very saddened to have to read this news glen.
My thoughts and prayers go out to your father, yourself and your family.
As i have been on both sides of the fence, i can appreciate were your heads probably at, at the moment, but there is one piece of advice i'd like too offer, for up the track.
A cancer diagnosis can be just as mentally and physically devastating for carers and family members. So, please remember too at times, step back from the situation and take time out for yourself, this will be important for yourself and your father. You will need to do this to recharge your energy/de-stress and for staying positive.
And, as other have stated, you have a great bunch of moderators here who will make sure Jemsite runs smoothly.

There are no words. It's not much comfort but at least you have time. I'd give anything for another month or 2 with either my mom or dad. But as with my brother there will come a time when you'll feel the end should come sooner than later as that is a tough way to leave this world. My heart goes out to your whole family.
No need to say it but if you need anything you know to just ask.

Your dad will be in my prayers. From your words we can tell that he's had a positive effect on many people's lives. My mom and dad lived that same type of life. When his time comes, tears will be shed, but he'll be in good company.
