Re: NEW SERVER for Jemsite (aug 2006) discussion

Well, the top log out in the blue bar was gone last night and this AM. The drop down in the quick links didn't work.

Now all of the sudden the top log out in the blue bar is back!

Could it be the AOL

Trust me, AOL is outta my life VERY shortly. Even for FREE it's not worth it

i put it back when i verified the quicklist "logout" is not working for some reason (they use the same, exact code).

i'd always suggest people get rid of AOL ASAP but you can't blame this on them ...glen

Ahhh...so it wasn't just me But the (free) AOL is STILL going!!

Lol...it's just Glen's way of keeping members around.

Hey, Jim...?

If you get Cox, then just sign up for a YAHOO mail account.. They're free, you've got tons of storage space, and blah blah blah.. they're easy to make, there's no committment, and they're even EASIER to use.

Yay! There's my two cents!

Re: NEW SERVER for Jemsite (aug 2006) discussion

A bit late to the party here, but for what it's worth, sevenstring.org runs on a pair of Plesk-Power 3's from www.powervps.com. I use one for the files, one for the DB and I couldn't be happier with the site performance and their customer service, which is absolutely top-notch.

Also, if you want to send me your postbit_legacy template, Glen, I'd be happy to fix any bugs with it for you. My username over at vbulletin.org is Chris-777, and I'm an advanced designer there. I've been going nuts on XHTML compliance lately and I'm very familiar with vB's template system.

chris (blah blah at blah nospam blah) sevenstring.org if you're interested (or just PM it to me here).

thanks... i'll bookmark them. VPS is good because they're managed but i was worried about an oversold server over time (ie. jemsite, yours and several other sites all running on the same box at a high cost) so the time was due to just to kick in the extra $$$ and pay for fully managed and 100% dedicated box

the vB guys (and myself) confirmed it's not as much as coding error but a firefox browser handling issue (same code in postbit & postbit_legacy). even though i replicated it on several profiles, creating a new, clean profile with FF fixed the problem but that leads me to believe others will face the issue too in the future (adblock, extensions, etc.)

now, if you can figure out how to get the QUICKLINK "logoff" menu to work i'd be grateful ...glen

posting an auction link in any existing thread is not an issue. i think the "funny/lame" threads are even part stickied ...glen

Re: NEW SERVER for Jemsite (aug 2006) discussion

couple of forum tweaks:

* i added formatting links to the "post reply" or "go advanced" post window. this will show smilies, vB formating and IMAGE code.

from quick reply just lick on RULES (if it's closed - bottom left) for the same links... it seems many did not notice they were there.

* i added a style Cell phones / PocketPCs that will automatically be loaded if you are on a mobile device. Minimalistic text formatting that should work pretty good.... glen
