NEW SERVER for Jemsite (aug 2006) discussion

Hi Guys, as i posted in another thread James/WildWayz has provided our hosting/server for the last few years and he is closing his hosting shop

I need a new host ASAP and while i have several reputible ones bookmarked if anyone has any ideas please post or PM.

Requirements: Dedicated server or VPS (virtual private sever)

I have www.1and1.com for my sites and I've never had a problem.
They are one of the biggest, and even for small business for 9.99 they give you 100 GB of storage and 1 TB of x-fer per month.

thanks bamm... i'll see what they have regarding vps/dedicated

i should have noted above that i can't use regular "web hosting" as the forum requires too much CPU/RAM use due to the database connections and scripts. we need a semi-dedicated server at least, otherwise the site will shut us down (or just throttle us down to a speed where the site is too slow and unusable)... glen

Glen.... I have used 1and1.com for just over a year. No problems here either and reasonably priced.

I don't know a lot about web hosting but I use LunarPages for my two sites. Been there for a couple of years and all's well for what it's worth.

OK, I have a dedicated server lined up, one that is MANAGED in regard to security updates and the like.

THERE WILL BE SOME DOWNTIME FOR THE FORUM SO IF YOU HAVE TRANSACTIONS AND PRIVATE MESSAGES AND NAMES/NUMBERS REGARDING CLASSIFIEDS SAVE THEM OFFLINE ASAP.

This server is closing in TWO WEEKS or less so the switch will be within that timeframe.

I'll post an ANNOUNCEMENT now... glen

relax guys. some "problems" often are the many steps inbetween. it's not like we're on some flunky shared account. we're on an older essentially dedicated server now (with a couple of other sites only).

while i'm very confident this new server is going to be great and be managed (by pros) properly we had a NICE run of a couple years free of hassle and switching so many thanks to james/wildwayz are in order

Hey Glen, I have used liquidweb.com for my Dedicated & VPS, that also may have something you may like, they are also fully managed servers 24hr support.
