Re: State of the site when browsing on the iPhone or other mobile devices

This first image is of how the classifieds page looks scrolled all the way to the right. Every topic page I tried looks the same but the latest post page and probably ALL search pages do not load the items, just part of the grey field, as you can see in the last shot. Every screen shot in-between is how the page originally loaded on the phone.

Re: State of the site when browsing on the iPhone or other mobile devices

I guess I should add one of a thread. this is the current last page of the photography thread in the misc. section. It looks good on my iPhone. However, the text is on the verge of being too small and I imagine if it were viewed on a device with a smaller screen, like a blackberry, it would be too small to read without excessive scrolling.

That being said, I appreciate all of the effort put into this project so far. Keep up the good work.

Yep, forum main page is good now. No horizontal scrolling. Subforms still have the problem though.

As mentioned before I think it would be worthwhile if the mobile stylesheet were hiding the divs that contain the ad banner and the "Whats going on?" section. Cutting these things out should lower the data needed to be transferred for viewing the pages on a mobile device.

The less things loading each time the better, as cellular data transfer can be slow, plus for many it counts to your mobile plans.

i don't think there is or will be a mobile stylesheet. that seems a bit unrealistic and messy imho. especially since vBulletin does not support one :-( getting the stylesheet compliant with most web-browsers OTOH is very possible. seems much closer.

the forum works & looks great on windows mobile 6.1 (ie and opera mini and skyfire)... glen

I don't see how it's messy and unrealistic, although that's my opinion.

Many designers are incorporating mobile stylesheets these days seeing as many more people are using mobile devices to view the internet. It's not an overly difficult process to create one either.

I'm surprised that vBulletin doesn't support one too. I would think that is something that you can write up for your site anyway. I may very well be wrong though. Although there was that mobile CSS thing happening before, it just wasn't implemented very well.

I am glad though that we can view the site in a reasonable manner now though.

Re: State of the site when browsing on the iPhone or other mobile devices

vB is a PITA to modify as nothing is centrally located. so then when you "upgrade" versions everything has to be tweaked. plus each "add-on" does their own thing. repeat & rinse.

i'm not saying it's not possible, i'm saying for probably 99% of the viewers it's not an issue. iPhone in the USA here requires a data plan (so does windows mobile, blackberry, palm, android devices) so pay-per-minute is not an issue for the majority of viewers on mobile devices. software like opera mini also caches/scales graphics so really i'd chalk this up to a deficiency and limitation of apple/iPhone more than vBulletin/jemsite but that is strictly MY PERSONAL opinion not that of jemsite.com ... glen

Re: State of the site when browsing on the iPhone or other mobile devices

Hey guys, just wondering if there are plans to fix up the sub-forum pages? Threads are great, and main forum index page is great. Just still got the issue on the sub forums still.

Thanks for your hard work rectifying these problems.

Seems to be fixed except for the search pages including "latest posts". They still have the forum jump drop down menu loading to the right of the page.

Ah much better on the sub forum pages, thanks.

As asked earlier, is it possible to make the font a little bigger?

Cheers
