i mean just wtf, is there a way to "force" these illiterates to read the faq's first rather than fill my "new posts" with crap about knowing the smurfs and i have this crap for sale etc etc.

Most of them don't get replies to their "first post ads", don't move on to the classifieds, and go away without posting again. In that regard, I don't see it as much of a problem. When they are seeling tons of stuff, the ad/posts are removed and they are marked as spammers and banned.
There are only a handful of people who ever even look in that section, so I don't see it as an issue.

And as you well know Rob, there isn't a way to get people to read the FAQs first
