Re: Gone Scallopped!!!!!!!!

I've never played a fully scalloped neck, but would love to do so.. I would love a short scale guitar with a scalloped neck and for sure with a maple finger board.. I'm getting used to the maple on my newly aquired RG 550 and I love it.. God I love the feel of it..

Thumbs up

Re: Gone Scallopped!!!!!!!!

Man! I did that same thing for my strat. I tried the Yngwie Strat and i loved it then i decided to do scalloping for my own guitar myself. Ofcourse it's not as good as the yngwie strat but now my guitar is much better. I did it also in parts and i am going to scallop the whole neck some day. Now the frets 9-21 are scalloped. Everyone should try scalloped neck some day. I would not use it on my main guitar but it's a nice ad in collection.

Re: Gone Scallopped!!!!!!!!

Looks like a horrific and painful process... I have the urge to do it to my RG... maybe sand off the finish (it's messed up anyway). Wouldn't be a bad guitar to practice on : )

Re: Gone Scallopped!!!!!!!!

It's not that hard to do. It takes some time only. It took 2 hours from me to scallop 6 highest frets.

I've got a pile of garbage RG320 that I'd like to experiment with (not sexually). I figure the worst thing I could do to it is make it better : )

Re: Gone Scallopped!!!!!!!!

never played a scollaped neck, are they at all similar to jumbo frets ?

Ive always liked a well oiled fingerboard, polished frets and lots of wooden feel on my fingers.

Re: Gone Scallopped!!!!!!!!

What are scallopped frets supposed to do? Are they better than normal frets?

Re: Gone Scallopped!!!!!!!!

Hmmm...scallops may be broiled, kabobed, stir- fried, baked, or microwaved. There are many recipes for scallops.

I tried the microwaved scallops, but I couldn't fit the neck in the microwave.

Now what?

1 tablespoon garlic salt
2 tablespoons butter, melted
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Besides, I don't think the garlic salt or melted butter would be too good for it. Not sure about lemon juice, maybe lemon oil instead.

Scallop necks are always nice to shred on.. You need to get used to at first but after that you'll burn around the fret as hell but there are cons to it... I find it very hard to play rythm with it and holding barre chords on it is hell...

Re: Gone Scallopped!!!!!!!!

A Scalloped neck will create less friction as there in no wood underneath your fingers, so you get a much better grip of the strings. Making it much easier for bends and vibrato e.t.c. It didn't take me that long to get used to them, you don't have to press the string down so hard, so you gradually develop a 'lighter touch' enabling you to move around the fretboard faster. There's only 1 disadvantage to scalloped necks imo, sliding is abit awkward as your hands get stuck on the frets but this is a minor problem.

I knew there was a reason, for butter.

OK. I'll stop, not so funny, apparently.

Jam on....

Makes for sticky neck though.
