My homemade Tele is named Amy cos my dad and I finished building her on March 13 1996, which happened to be the birthday of a friend named Amy. I figured that was a name presented by the cosmos on that day.

My Ibanez acoustic is named Michelle, after the flute chick on American Pie. Because this one time, at band camp...

And my new RG7420 is named Zoidberg, after Dr Zoidberg on Futurama, because they're both pretty much the same colour and they're both FREAKS.

The others don't have names.

Haven't really felt the need to name my VWH, but when I talk to it in my best Golem voice (from Lord of the Rings) my wife goes nuts... "Does the precious want to come out and play? They wants to take the precious away from me..."

No formal names here. The names usually reflect their playing priority, the manufacturer or model. Simple.
Ibanez UV777BK = "my main bitch", "the UV", "the Universe"
ESP 7 = "the ESP", "my backup"
BCRich Warlock = "The Warlock"
Steinberger = "Steinie"

I view naming guitars as not needed. I never have. I tried once, but their inadamant view is too strong in my mind. In other words, no i don't name my guitars.

I think naming your guitar's gives it more character. All of my guitars have names and it really helps when recording to identify between them; with that in mind here they are:

Ibanez RG570 - Twilight
Ibanez RG525 - Midnight
Ibanez USRG30 - Amber
Ibanez RG2027VV - Phoenix
Carvin DC400 - Oasis
Washburn D25 - Alexandria

Re: have you named your guitar yet?

Some of them, but not others. My Strat's name has always been "Layla". My Firebird is "Firebird" and my Martain is....Martain. Nut none of the other 8 have names. Wait, unofficially, I've secretly called my Telecaster "Goldy". And my Ibazez I've called Blu.

Anyway you look at it though, guitars have soul. They're made from living wood, change through the years, age, and every single one is different, even if they came from the same assembly line. In contrast, with keyboards, every single electronic keyboard is the same. A Korg Karma is EXACTLY THE SAME as every other Korg Karma. That's one more reason that GUITARS RULE!!!!!!!!
