Re: How do I get my *amp* on the plane?

I'll be traveling through Europe in May, and I've decided to take an electric (more durable). I've ordered a gig bag with 1" foam padding, to use the guitar as my carry-on. Now that I have the guitar taken care of, I need some amplification. I like the compact and simple setup of the Lil Smokey Amp, but I realy just want a good, clean sound. I don't think any of the toy mini-amps by fender or marshall would be any good for this either. A travel amp or a modification to clean up my smokey would be great!

Thanks

Re: How do I get my guitar on the plane?

I'll take that as a yes. I might order a jem7vwh and a trem stud mod kit off you this summer when I get the money. Do you do sustainers?

Re: How do I get my guitar on the plane?

I heard that Steve Lukather bought in the late 70's '59 Gibson Les Paul. When was going to a plane he had to buy a seat ticket for his guitar! Don't know if this is true, but sounds funny.

Re: How do I get my guitar on the plane?

O.k just to get this straight, I have a PGM model that has the Edge-Pro.
Should I detune the strings ?
I also own a CS Strat, is it okay to remove the strings, I always change one string at a time, It's something I was told I should do many years ago.

I'm flying from Iceland to L.A soon to attend Musicians Institute so it would
be great to have some info.

Re: How do I get my guitar on the plane?

People generally like musicians. If it's in a gig bag and it's expensive, the airline wouldn't want to risk that type of liability. They sometimes put it in a closet up front if you're lucky. Worst case scenario, the overhead compartment, but you're taking a risk.

I would suggest one of those really nice padded gig bags. I've taken my guitar to Asia and South America and the continental U.S., so I'm speaking from experience.

Can you practice on a plane? Don't count on it. If you're dealing with an airline known for poor customer service, and rude flight attendents; just get yourself a solid reliable hardcase like a Waterproof SKB for safe travel even if it goes in the luggage compartment under the plane. The case is about $250, but spare no expense to protect a guitar that is $500+. I am travelling with 3 guitars and a good hard case for each is important.
