i wont touch a guitar that isnt H S H..

I love humbuckers but I need single coils..
HSS is ok but i dont get that neck tone I love so much

HH kinda takes away the single coil magic. doesnt it? even with coil taps it's not quite the same.

I'd choose the JEM7VWH.. thats why I own one.

rg3120

alright, i just got a brand new from factory rgt3120(neck thru) direct from ibanez cause they had just a few left(since they have been discont)for 1099 and i will tell you what, this is one of the best guitars i have ever played, i am sure the the non neck thur plays just as well but if possible you might as well get the neck thru for better tonal possibilities. Plus, this guitar looks amazing. I play thru a dual recto and it just kills. I own 7 guitars all top of the line and this is by far the best shredding machine you will find without looking towards j custom. And i have played some j customes that dont even come close. get the 3120

Re: JEM or Prestige - Which do you prefer?

Hi Folks,

My main axe is a `94 VWH JEM which is amazing to say the least ( but you all know that!! ).My backup gtr is a `04 "Prestige" 2620,and while it is a good axe which if I did not have my ( never to be sold ) JEM,would be my main axe,it is no way as good in terms of Tone/vibe/sustain/playability as my ( or probably any other ) JEM in my "humble" opinion. Also, the IBZ Humbuckers are nothing like the crunchy "Evo`s" on my white beauty. So,in my view,if you can find the cash to get a JEM,don`t go for a Prestige,or if you can only afford a Prestige RG,find a used JEM...you know it makes sense. It worked for me!!!

Re: JEM or Prestige - Which do you prefer?

I have the RG3120 in red. It's a great guitar....and with the H-H combination you can get almost any sound you want out of it. I do think the Tone-Zone is just a little bit too muddy but then again....could be my Cube 30 amp......
I have never tried this guitar in another amp then my own. So I can't really tell....

Got it for 900dollars new so I didn't even want to think about it :P It's a bargain for that price.

I have no idea what you should buy , but inferior.................NO defenitly not! Both equal in quality. Just a matter of taste I think.
If they both costed the same I'd buy the JEM.....but since the JEM is more expensive for sure I'd buy the RG3120.

Re: JEM or Prestige - Which do you prefer?

If the Tone-Zone seems muddy try adjusting the pole pieces. 1>2>3 and 4>5>6. numbers are the strings. Tone-Zones have a lot of bass...lower the 6 and raise the 4. Let your ears be the judge. The allen key/inbus sleutel is a strange size...not the same as used on guitars so don't try to force one of those in.

I have 2 Jems, a 93 7VWH and a 90HAM. A friend of mine has a 2003 RG3120TW, which is a good guitar, but not a Jem. Usually RGs have lesser wood for the neck and headstock so they sound less full, have less sustain and don't feel as solid. I don't know if the RG3120 an RGT3120 are also deprived of the best woods they have lying around at Ibanez, but my guess is that's the awful truth. Prestige Signatures have priority I think.

Nothing like that happened in the 80s and early 90s that I can tell...I played a 91? RG770 a few months back. The neck maple was massive.

I love Jems but I would take an RGA321 over it, just for the fact that I don't want to play in one tuning the whole time....

Re: JEM or Prestige - Which do you prefer?

The RG3120 es every bit as good as a jem. If you can get an RG3120 a lot cheaper than a jem, get the 3120. If you can find a jem for about the same than a 3120, Id go for the jem, sell it for more and buy the 3120

Re: JEM or Prestige - Which do you prefer?

LOL good idea RCB........

I have a RG3120 for a while now. Nice guitar but my next guitar will be a Strat model with singlecoils. I bought it with the idea of playing metal/rock but now I almost always play clean and blues/funk kind of stuff. And I just miss the real single coil sound now.....

Re: JEM or Prestige - Which do you prefer?

Get the Jem. Three pickups offer more than two and if you want the H-H configuration fit a push/pull as a toggle for either of the humbuckers. More options=better guitar.
