Jem555 vs. Jem7v. Which is better???

blanks were moved... i should have posted a NOTE in there when moving

The 555 with Edge mod should play, intonate, tune, etc. PERFECTLY if the modification is done correctly. There is nothing special about installing new posts on guitar and the VWH/555 are the same scale length (25.5")...glen

Jem555 vs. Jem7v. Which is better???

Talking STRICTLY from experience, (My first JEM a 555, my 2nd... a 7V!!! I still have both) if you want to spend less $ and get a 555 for the EVOs, JEM neck and body, go for it. If you play enough to have small imperfections and parts of slightly lesser quality bother you then you should consider replacing the trem with a fairly costly routing job and a new Edge trem and have the whole thing put in the hands of a tech.

To answer your question: 7V.

I do believe this post is like.. what, a year old?

i would go for the jem7v, its not worth paying that much money for the jem555 and getting such a poor trem, i would rather pay less and get a rg 570, but to answer your question i would go for the jem7v!

Stop it !!!

I'm very tired of hearing all those bad comments on the 555 model.
It's 5 years that I own it and I can be satisfied.Sure, the trem is not as good as the edge, but a player modifies his stile to reach perfection on his own guitar.I mean everyone can play well on the lo trs, it's only a matter of time.In response to those who say the vine inlay is not extended on all the neck and so the 555 is crap: when you are on stage the only thing that is impressive is your style and sound and not your moter of pearl long inlay.Pickups are fantastic and that's the "only" thing that means.
Visit my band's page at www.ikebanagroup.com.
Bye. Michele.

Unfortunately you're right for the most part here. Yes the 555 sounds great, but, (there's always a but) only other guitarists will be able to notice the difference especially when playing out on a gig, where most of the audience is

a) not interested in the intricacies of your sound, and

b) couldn't tell the difference anyway.

That just leaves 2 things for your style to impress them with, your note choice to an audience who for the most part

a) won't care, or

b) won't notice, because you're not playing any songs they know.

And then your look.

Where yep you guessed it, most folks will either say

a) "Oooh that guitar's pretty" or

b) "Huh, which one?"

You've got to play the guitar you choose for you and yourself only... no-one else in the general population will either know or care.

If you like the 555 then that's great. I certainly wouldn't rule one out

I found me a nice previously owned 7VWH for less than a new 555. There's a big difference between the instruments. One is even better than the other.
Didn't anybody notice the VW an VWH similarity which makes it all a funny comparison? Let's say the Jem555 is PassatV8 (ignoring that that's a superfluous car) and the 7VWH a Phaeton.
Lamborghini is part of the Volkswagen Group BTW (belongs to Audi) for those of you who want to get creative... No need to swear F%$^&#i here

What if I baught a JEM555 and then installed new pickups and a new tremolo system. I heard from a friend of mine that it plays like a dream. What do you guys think?

The 555 already got evolution pickupss so I don't see point in changing them. Unless you are looking for someting in particular.
Changing the tremolo can be done, but you could just as well by yourself a used "real" JEM.

Jem555 same wood as a original Jem

Hi,
the Jem 555 is made in Korea. Is is it the same wood as a Jem i.e. vbk ?
To make my custom Jem i would take a 555, put a new trem on it and finish it in an other colour.
Is this a good idea ?

Thanks, Uwe

i think jem VWH is better than 555,you know, maybe the VWH is more expensive than 555,but all the parts from VWH is a best material in the world for electric guitar.

Comparison

Is it just me or does everyone seem completely blind to the idea of value for money, bad-mouthing the 555 when its quite clearly a fine guitar.

Of course if you double the money you spend you damn well ought to get a better guitar!!!! Also, how could a JEM555 be rated as number 10 in the top ten New Guitars poll in the UK's Guitar Buyer magazine if it was a substandard instrument.

It is obviously worth noting earlier points as to the higher quality of similar priced RGs... but i personally feel the aesthetic of the JEM is well worth the extra pennies [or cents, wherever you're reading this]. That doesn't imply its a polished s**t though.

So reality check. You get what you pay for. They're both good value, its just a matter of personal financial priority.
