Jem555 vs. Jem7VWH - Which is better?

well vai may like 555 neck's, but in my opinion the neck on a 555 compared to a VWH........well the awnser's simple really

Having played both for a good enough amount of time and owning a VWH myself, I can say the VWH is about 100X better in all aspect's even the paint doesnt fade (no need to go into detail on why it doesnt I know why It doesnt fade)

Strange that none of you actually are mentioning the quality of the wood.
The selected wood for high end ibanez guitars are sounding a hell of a lot better than rg5xx and jem555. I do not trust any Ibanez body below rg2xxx soundwise, because of the quality of the wood. I have to play them.
You can be lucky of course, but the bottom line is you get what you pay for.

So what I say is that basswood and basswood doesn't sound the same, and definitely alder vs basswood doesn't sound the same.

One random question, couldn't find an answer anywhere but why does Vai have the monkey grips on the jems? Is there a point/use or is it just for display?

ive had a jem555 since 1996 so that speaks for itself never played a jem7vwh ive just bought a jem777vbk i prefer the paf-pro pickups to the 555 pickups my 555 is up for sale if you fancy a cheaper jem i paid £900 ill accept £400 its a 11 year old guitar still in mint condition not a single mark on it my email addy arrowman1969@yahoo.co.uk uk sale only

I had the hapiness of having both at same time the 555 and 7v.. course the 7 v is most beautiful and the alder body gives a diferent (not better) tone.. ( just reminding that the same basswood that goes to flo and UV , goes to 555s too)
Well.. anyway.. ive installed a lo pro edge tremolo and a fsk 401 sustainer kit on in my 555 and its doing fine.. screamin like FLO.. in matter effect i saw some pictures of FLO with a 555 neck here in jemsite.. course the 7v is better.. but stpo the nazi stuff.. if youre short money customize a 555 and you'll have a fine axe...

Wow, what an old thread.

I think one main point regarding the 555 vs 7vwh argument here was missed.

The 555 was the same price as an MIJ RG. Now, both were basswood, both had the wizard neck, BUT the RG was Made in Japan, and it had a lo-pro Edge.


Now lets close this can of worms back up. We don't need to worry about the 555 anymore. It died and shouldn't be more than an awful fading memory.

Hi. I've bought a JEM7VSBL. Would like to have a read at the manual, but have not found a place where i can download a PDF or anything. Could someone point me to the right place?

I have seriously been considering getting a 555, now I'm in Australia where it has an edge 3 trem now, which I have on my rg and I consider a fine trem, and as the main complaints I see about the 555 is the Lo-TRS(a horrible trem which, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't made by Ibanez?) is a 555 worth getting with an edge? I would take the advice of getting an older jem but the only jems I seem to come across arre claimed to be "rare" and cost almost twice as much as the 555.

Sorry if I'm going off topic but I'm new and I can't post a new thread asking this question yet, so any help would really be appreciated, even if it is completely rejecting my idea I'm still not certain on a 555.

i'm going to guess that the Jem 7VWH is the superior instrument.
i think for the 555 to be worth it, you'll need to replace the trem and the pickups. i still say if you can afford a real Jem (not a junior), then go for it.
