Re: New members - introduce yourself here.

Hey, my name is Mike. I have been playing music for over 40 years and guitar for 35 years. (yeah, I'm gettin old) This love for the electrified insturment started in 1968 after my first aural experiences with Mr. Hendrix and Mr. Santana. Oh I had heard the Beetles, Buddy Holly and even my share of country pickers. (grandma played the fiddle and grandpa played the acoustic guitar, Both thought they could sing...... at least as a child I was impressed.) My first insturment was a Ukalali. I got it on my tenth birthday, as my older brother had gotten a big old "box" acoustic for his birthday. I was pissed..... I was the one who wanted that damn "box" guitar just like grandpa had. Your fingers are "too small" everyone said. Long story short.... my brother gave it up as just a hobby. (he still does a little pickin an grinnin) Me? Well I ignored my parents, and never finished college to become an architect. Instead, I took music lessons from the music majors on campus and became a working musician. (yeah, lots of lessons....woodshedding, more lessons... music theory.....then off to wood / metal shredding the world) I stopped playing professionally in 1997-98 which leads me to today. Now I have had that burning again after watching my son get bitten and turning into a formidable shredder in about a year. (damn, I seemed like it took me forever) Well now he's more interested in football and figuring out which college he's going to go to. He's a senior in high school this year. Ok. Ok. sorry for drooling on myself..... Now about the Jem and the Ibanez guitars. When I first started playing it had to be a Gibson. My first "real" guitar was a "63" SG. Then a pair 0f "74" Les Pauls. (a delux and a custom) Then Mr. Van Halen came along and I just had to have some modified shred machine. Yeah, a FrankenFender. Then a Kramer Baretta, then a Kramer Stagemaster, a Jackson, (a sweet 335, got into jazz and country pickin too) a couple of Strats, and a PRS later.... I had to get my son a guitar. I had always considered Ibanez a Japanese copy of real American "wood" when I was young. Yeah, I had seen Mr. Vai, Mr. Satriani, Mr. Gilbert and a bunch of others using them and had even been handed a few to play when a guest of others. Anyway, my son just had to have a JS series Ibanez. Yep..... I played it when he was out and about. Then after a reunion with some "old" friends someone handed me their Jem to play. Damn, that thing was sweet. It was "hot", I was sweatin and shredding again. Not playing like some stuffy 50 year old on a PRS. You got it, I ran down to my local music store and had them order me one. Now I'm convinced. Nice axe!!!!..... and the cool part is shredding is coming back, and I have one of the best shred machines ever designed. Less the Ebony fret board (I just had to point that out) The only other slightly disappointing thing is I couldn't order it slightly customized for me. Yeah. I'm spoiled, I wanted cosmo black hardware not gold and again....where's the ebony? My buddy.... he has several and he's got ebony plus a bunch of "fancy" ones.
Thanks for the soap box, and enjoy the rest of your morning.

Re: New members - introduce yourself here.

Hi folks. My name is Burt DeWees. 33 yrs. old, 18 yrs playing guitar, and I am a luthier. I got my start working for Dave Bunker. He is the guy responsible for inventing the "Tension Free" neck on the USRG 30, 20, and 10 models, among many other inovations. I have noticed some confusion, some ignorance, and a lot of reverance for these special guitars on these forums. Also, lets not forget the ATK bass guitar with the tension free neck that won bass of the year in 1994.

If anybody has any questions or confusion about this paticular inovation, I would be glad to help in any way I can. Dave is still around and kicking, www.bunker-guitars.com, and much is explained about these necks on his site. If any other info is needed I would be glad to help.

Cheers, Burt

Re: New members - introduce yourself here.

Good Day! Sonny here from Tampa, FL... I've been playing for ever... 1970
I am slimply blown away with my new SZ520... what an incredible axe for the money! My Les Paul and Strat are gathering dust. The only thing I need to change is the wiring... I love the sound of the middle confiruation, but you loose your master volume. So I think I will wire it up PRS McCarty style... Has anybody here done this or change their wiring in their SZ520. PRS 5 Way etc... Thanks, It's great to be here...

Re: New members - introduce yourself here.

Hello this is Ben. I've recently turned 16 and have just purchased a second hand JEM 7VWH from **** and decided to register with your site to share my passion with other Ibanez enthusiasts! I also have a Fender Showmaster, an old Squire Strat, an Ovation semi-acoustic, a Washburn D12, a brandless classical guitar and an Ozark banjo. As far as amps goes I've got a Marshall MG 250 and a Marshall 15 watt practice amp (anything louder would upset the neighbours). For effects I use my Boss GT6 with all the other pedals I have bought accumulating dust in the cupboard.
I've been playing the electric guitar for 3-4 years and the acoustic since I was about 10, and enjoy playing all musical genres, my favourites being guitar instrumental, fusion, metal, jazz, rock and country
Could anbody give me any advice on setting up the trem on my JEM as I am having a few problems, since the last user played with a set of 8s and I generally use 10s and when I've replaced the strings everything has gone caput lol. I don't even think the trem was set up properly to start with. I'll post more details in a more revelant thread and I would greatly appreciate any advice!!
Ben

Re: New members - introduce yourself here.

Hey there, my name is Erling. Been playing guitar for about 12 years, and I bought my Jem 77 bfp second hand in '99. I've known off this site, and stopped by every now and then for several years, so eventually I thought that the time was right for me to sign up! I'm very interested in hearing from people with the same guitar as me, and also to hear from anyone that knows some facts and info about it!

Erling, from Norway
