New tuners for Vai

yup, so in laymen's terms
40:1 = long-arse time to wind strings, but very very precise.

I think those tuners look way to big and goofy. And 100 bucks?? For 100 bucks I should be able to program what pitch I want them to tune to and they do it themselves. (Ok maybe not 100, probably 500, but still 100 is a lot)
Try $3,250

I thought I'd seen that somewhere. The last time I got a tattoo, the guy did it at his house. I sat on his couch drinking a beer and watching Pantera videos while he inked me.

And it was free, too. The best combination of circumstances for tattooing, in my book.

An update on the tuners: One of our Houston boys talked to Steve after the G-3 show. When he posed the question about the tuners to Steve, he replied that he hated them… with a smile. Dave Weiner later told us that he put them on there and confirmed that Steve hates ‘em.

That does not mean that they are bad tuners. Steve just doesn’t like them. Apparently Dave does.

Has anyone tried these yet? They are looking like an interesting possibility at the moment...

New tuners for Vai

Not yet, but as soon as I have a hundred to spare,I'm going to music yo, and I'll let you know. A couple months, maybe.
* * * * * * I have sperzels on both my floyd equipped stratobastards, and I love 'em.Some question the need or feasability of installing locking or other style tuners on a floyd equipped axe, but I see it like this: Sure I don't need any more help staying in tune, but anyone with a floyd or floyd style bridge will testify-changing strings and GETTING them in tune is a royal pain in the arse. The tuners cut my string changing/tuning time in half.Thats why I have them.

New tuners for Vai

If you're looking at "alternative" tuners like the Steinberger gearless tuners, take a look at LSR Precision Tuners.

They're similar to the Steinberger ones in that they have a very high ratio, but these ones are slightly more conventional, and look a little cooler, IMO. They're also available in matte chrome and matte gold, if the Steinbergers' black-only colour scheme doesn't suit you.

FYI, these are the same tuners that Jackson used on the Roswell Rhoads models and a few of their Custom Shop jobs. They're pretty nifty. I've been considering putting these on my project guitar, but at twice the cost of Sperzels, it's kinda hard to justify, other than for the cool factor.

Interesting nut in the opening page photo as well. I would guess that precision is the perfect word for those.

With my exclusive use of locking nuts, I have no need for such a thing on my electrics, but on my acoustic they may be awesome.

Well I think it's a safe assumption that the nut is an LSR roller nut. And the frets on the FLO: I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that that's the Buzz Feiten system (or some other form of alternate intonation system). And on the sunglasses, I'm surprised there isn't a Satch line out of them.

Yeah, the frets are supopsed to be like that... it's something I saw on another thread earlier tonight I just can't remember where. I can't remember why either.

The wobbly frets are a part of the "FretWave" system which yes, is a different intonation system. It's to do with the well-tempered scale not sounding quite right across the length of the guitar's fretboard, particularly on the G string if I recall correctly.
